Just a very quick note.

Having completed the paperwork for armor group, they require jabs upto date and to have a medical through your gp,having just returned from my local gp office, they have told me I have to have a private medical which as I have just found out is going to cost me around £100 and my jabs which are out of date around the same maybe more.Anyone got any advice as I'm well cheesed off that I have to fork out money of which I could well do without spending or is it the norm?

Unfortunately Mad this is the norm.... most companies require an up to date medical and the required vaccinations to suppliment it.
That said the couple of hundred quid should be a good investment as regards the few thousand quid a month you will recieve if successful. Anyways , it is good practice to keep the jabs up to date anyroad.
The recent medical is all down to insurance purposes, when I worked for AG I had a bit of shrap removed from my skull and as a result AG insurance requested a letter from my surgeon prior to allowing me to return to work stating that I was fit to wear helmet etc and that the wound was now healed sufficiently for Iraq living conditions. (they paid me ful rate until this was completed). again this came down to insurance requirments.
Suck it up mate and take the hit, the rewards are greater than the outlay.

As mentioned this is the norm however some GP's don't charge for this....although most do. I had to have another medical a month or so ago and I got it free as my GP is ex Navy and a good old egg! Only thing I had to pay for was my fellow fever which was 50 quid. This was not required however I got it anyway as there is a possibility of some work in Indonesia later this year so it was worth getting it done anyway just on case!

I used to work for Armorgroup, and went through the same situation you did nearly 3 years ago, but fortunately I was reimbursed by AG for any money I spent on my Medical and vaccinations. I could'nt tell you if they still reimburse monies or not.Give it a go. Good luck with AG Mate

I worked for AG last year and on the day of deployment they arranged for me to visit their doctor in London, so I did'nt have to pay out anything.

I would advise getting the jabsa week or so before you deploy anyway because you could feel like $heet for a day or a few hours depending on what jabs you are getting.
