Lads
Need a bit of assistance from those with more knowledge. I've been asked by an associate to vet some guys for a bodyguard position. The client has already interviewed them- it's for her kids, and she has decided on the bloke she wants to get the job. However, when I have come to vet him I've got certain issues with his employment history- in particular his Red Book- British Army discharge papers. Most of the guys I have recruited in the past have been US or TCNs so, despite me having one, I am not familiar with the way certain info is presented in the Red Book, my military career was short and lacked anything interesting. Now I don't want to violate PERSEC so if anyone with more than a passing familiarity with the Red Book- specifically info presented in terms of locations of service in relation to ops page 5 and Awards during service page 2- can PM me for advice and info. I have enquired with the Army Personnel Centre, but got a response of SGTxxxxxxxxx served from xxxxxx to xxxxxx I am afraid we cannot provide any more information. This is not a witch hunt, the guy is a good bloke and I think he will do well, but if he is a Walt then I need to know so that I can deal. And if he has done what he says then I need to buy him a beer. But please remember PERSEC and OPSEC and PM. Cheers Al |

Ok lads. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that has PM'd me and helped out. Based on information received I spoke to the guy in question asking for the truth. He apologised and admitted misleading me; he was an intel guy working for a British Govt Int agency, but sat out all the British Military ops during his time in, because he was assigned to duties in London. Got a little bit pissed off that except for a few days here or there at conferences or meetings he never went anywhere else, so he jacked it in, and went to work in commerical intelligence. Got bored there too and wanted to try CP. I've informed the client and so there maybe a position coming up, she will decide and let me know.
However, I just want to say something else, concerning this. 2 lessons for new people in the industry or wanting to get in. 1) DO NOT lie to make yourself more employable or look like a better prospective employee, within 24 hours the truth about this bloke has come out. The guy was probably great as an analyst or an HQ guy, but because he's lied to me I probably won't give him another chance- if I do it will be after some time for him to get further training and experience. 2) This site is invaluable as a networking tool. There are some great blokes on here with a fountain of information. 3 guys responded to my request- I know more would have, but they have other stuff ongoing- the three guys know who they are, and thanks a million. I hope I can help anyone else out as much as they have. To anyone new here, please be honest, ask for advice and listen to what that advice is. Thanks Al |

Latest update on this- and an example of the short sightedness of clients. I went to the woman, explained that the guy had lied about his experience etc. She thought about it and said"... well the kids like him, don't worry about it, we'l hire him...." I explained that the guy would probably not be the best help if there was a problem, and she told me it was decided.
I give up, it's enough to drive you mad. |
