Hi Guys,
First of all, only just registered with this forum, a great site.

At the end of this year I am taking the plunge and discharging from the Australian army after ten years in an Infantry Parachute Battalion and make my way to the U.K to make a career within the Close Protection Industry.
I am up for my 3 month long service leave, so that together with my current leave will hopefully give me plenty of time to get a respective CP course done and whatever else I am going to need for sia certification, (little unsure at this stage how things work there with licensing).
If everything went smoothly, am I able to work straight away or am I going to have to wait along period of time for a license to come through after I have done a course not allowing me to gain any employment. A previous basic security license in Australia took me about two months to come through so I don't really want that to happen over there.
I have a British Passport so hopefully that is one less thing I don't have to worry about. I am getting mixed reports from guys I know when I ask for advice on courses etc. I was looking at Ronin SA although have been told by a few mates that it is Psd based and only do it if you want PSD work. Can anyone give me any advice on this taking into account I would much prefer to do the European scene. Are they correct in what they are saying?
I am fluent in the East Timorese language although obviously that is not much good on that side of the World. What is the most useful language over there going to be to learn? French or Spanish. ( I am really keen to start making a start while I'm on current deployment with my unit). I also have a current TS security clearance, will having that have any sort of benefit? I am currently doing a Masters degree in Policing, Intelligence and Counter terrorism and a cert IV in Security risk management. Hoping that all these things are going to increase my chances of employment as the security sector is what I want to pursue for the rest of my career. Sorry if I have gone a little long on the post but just very keen to make this happen.
Cheers

Be prepared for a very long wait for your licence to actually drop on the doormat! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news there but i'm just being honest.

Best of luck with the challenge though

Thanks for the reply Annie. That's not the news I want to be hearing. I thought it was going to be the case though like all things. I will just have to work around it I guess.

Hi,
To train for the private security industry will ofcourse help you, specially in the areas where its the law to take on authorised training programs.
However with a 10 year military background you might just add sia licensed Close protection training and then start to chase the companies operating in highrisk environments such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa?

Since there is some Australian PMC companies operating it might well be worth speaking to them before moving and change your life to much.
Like most of us finding work and specially in CP is difficult and a constant battle in securing a contract, and even with the best of training and experiences there is always things that stop you such as US companies that hire US citizens, or a client who wish his personal bodyguard is above 185 cm...

The client or the company have the requirements and sometimes with the best of training its small things that stop us but could be very important for the client or the contract it self.

languages is also important, specially in diffrent regions of the world.
Ive been working with 2 australian companies, and I enjoy the high risk jobs and dont want to go back to the (normal industry).

Right know I working out of Kandahar, Afghanistan and if i can be of assistance drop me a pm

All the best,
Hawk

hey mate... just thought i'd give u sum heads up im in the aussie army as well and i got back from england about 2 weeks ago and i just completed the Longmoor course for Close Protection, second to none is the best course, highly regard it very professional, and military orientated but each to there own, this is what i "personally" believe to be a good course others may think differently, but then again the australian army is the best army in the world, so i think my advice may be regarded as professional.

Good luck mate

Welcome aboard mate.

Take a look at DynCorp International. They are always looking for people, once you register on their website, you have to trog thorough the vacanies available for non US citizens. The head shed for their international recruiting is Bob Lelouet who seems to be constantly on the road. DynCorp International are looking at reorganising their website recruitment, to make it easeir for non US citizens to find and apply for Non US citizenship jobs, so keep an eye out on their website.

Stay Safe
