Hello fellas

Is it normal to start a possible job abroad without ever having spoke to the person who wants your services over the phone or met for an interview. The only way of communications is by e-mail?

Cheers lads

Yes if:

1.)You know someone already working for them.

2.)The company is listed ie Ltd and can be verified via a register followed up by a call to that company and a visit to their physical address.

3.)If the company is abroad, why not network with a local CP in that area and ask them to check out the companies physical address and any associated queries?

3.)You have your own company and have been approached by a client, but due diligence via a series of meetings before starting/supplying a project is normal.

If the person has not supplied a landline number, company address, (verifiable working office) etc etc I would be very wary indeed. Even "dodgey" clients will supply some form of alternative comms. and not just email, they certainly would want to speak or meet you before offering a position. You could mention the company's name here, there are a few that have scammed CP's with false promises and goose chases.

Hope this helps.

Shakes

Agreed Shakespeare,

the question I must ask in return is , does it feel odd to you??

If so trust your own instinct... as shakes has said , do you know anyone working for them that can verify???

I can say that I would never accept work from a company nor client without at least a bit of background knowledge ... If it is an overseas position in a dodgy area, double your caution mate.
aside anything sinister there is an aspect of concern over pay, pickup , rotations, equipment , team , task, the list is endless....
I am sure you have seen some of the waltish 'job offers' on here before ... and the advice handed out was sound in the most part.

I dont know the circumstances of your employment , if you were recommended by a mate working there or picked up 'in country' and you know the previous rep of the employer ... then not so bad ... if it is a simple cv sent and ' suck it and see' then I would be very cautious.... see the company webpage, call the landline and ask here for details on the employer if you have renewed reservations.... that is what this community is all about.

Overall Trust your instincts....

It is going to be my first job since leaving the military I responded to a job listing on the bba website couple of days ago for a three month contract, but when I e-mailed for some basic info so I could Famil and get some general ground orientation and possible contact info and pay details, the e-mail back told me nothing I wanted to hear. Hi Robbo,

All of the above, plus as far as I know, ASK International usually place CPOs in jobs relaing to the Film Industry, though not exclusively. They do as Shakes already suggested seem to advertise specifically female operators. Hope this helps.
