First I apologize cause I wasn't sure where I should post this question...
My question is when on contract with a company, do you supply your own load out, or is that provide by the company and allowance of the country or area you are serving in, sorry for the rookie question??? |

snivel gear- clothing and off duty stuff; laptop etc- is your lookout. Ops gear is something your company will supply- remember though it's usually the cheapest available and probably used. Weapons will always be supplied by the company- for legal and supply reasons.

Roadhog is right, if you whant better tactical vests, gear you might do a little investigation before deployment and could find out what weapons and kit they use, so you know what to bring, Ive been always issued Ak47..so I have a special sling for that..and I use my own chestrig, if you want flashlight, proper gun gloves, knife etc..you have to get this yourself.
If you can find out what pistol is any? you can bring a special holster.. I do found that the equipment (atleast with the companies I have worked for ) is getting worse..so even a cleaning kit might be worth bringin and tools for adjusting sights etc.. hawk |

whether the company you are working for has been awarded a government or private contract they should provide you with all basic necessities such as insurance,Bodyarmour, personal medi kit, helmets,Sat Nav etc.but depending on your personal stats & budget height weight etc .operators like to bring out personal gear too, from good fitting gloves, sunglasses etc.ive made a short list or items that could aid you on Hostile Area ops.remember dress apropriately for the Op weather conditions(summer/winter etc)
(these are only optional: 1. Laptop with wireless access 2. mobile phone with phone chip for country worked in 3. Thuraya/Iridium Satellite phone,- enables calls from anywhere providing clear skies 4. Garmin Vista hand held GPS 5.bugout bag for quick evac 6.pesonal medi kit 7.surefire torch 8.multi tool or folding knife 8.sunglasses 9. 2 pairs durable boots 10. option of personal holsters knee pads scrafs, weapons sling. etc 11. ID holder/case 12.sleeping bag/moskito net 13. depending on whether you work high or low profile work you may want to buy clothes that represent the area you work in, ie Arabic kafiya for that region etc. 14. i would never suggest that people be bribed, but keeping local guards, police malitia happy depending where you work Africa Asia Mis Eastwill usualy keep you on their side for Intel & help so keep some goodies aside.

when was the last time you were able to fly on a commercial flight with a PKM heavy machine gun? To import or export firearms in serveral countries a company needs to hold a "End User Certificate" this also applies for NVGs of a level Gen III and above, a company and its employees are legaly bound by the Individual contract , country & International weapons laws they operate in, |

Hi Fliesnest
Some excellent gems so far. I normally also bring the odd home comfort such as tea bags , bisto etc especially if you are located in villa complex and cooking yourself. A few boxes of Antibiotics are pretty handy too as it is not always practical to get to the CASH.(buy them over the counter in Dubai, Kuwait etc) A personal preference was my own body armour and piss pot as some of the issued stuff is crap. Discover your role prior to buying tac vests , etc .... some companies run low profile and wont allow them on operational duties. A good range of Holsters for your pistol Drop leg, belt rig and covert wont hurt and of course slings and sites for your weapon system. Bring plenty of reading material and a lappy is essential kit as previously mentioned. good grab bag and get your mits on as many FFDs as possible (company sometimes doesn't have them) Truely mate the list is endless and much of it can be purchased in PX etc, discover your role and ask again as running kit from Psd to Convoy to Low Pro to Stantics varies as does what is permitted by each company. |
