Starling.... i'd say join the queue. There are many women who would love the chance to work out in the pit and the like but reality check is that with no military experience it's not about to happen i am afraid.

Look at it this way there are loads and loads of men all ex mil applying for these jobs everyday, and if you were an employer who are you going to choose?

I am not wishing to piss on your parade her, just give you a bit of honest advice...... it's really very unlikely to happen! Companies have the good fortune to have any number of very well trained guys on their books, and wheras i am sure that many of us are up to the job, it just isn't going to happen.

No matter what you will do to get there, join the club, although i have a little more integrity than to say i will do anything to get there.

Concentrate on what you are good at and know your limitations, it saves a hell of a lot of frustration and time applying for roles that you aren't qualified to do.

Put it in context...... if my husband who was a medic in the paras for 9 years and has done 4 years as a medic with private contractors in Iraq struggled to get a new contract then it is very unlikely that we have a chance.

I am not saying impossible.......i do know of someone who has been, what i'm saying is its about as likely as aliens landing in trafalgar square buying a sightseeing guide and a london bus toy, and popping in to see the queen for a cup of earl grey.

Aegis employ alot of women and civvies in Baghdad...Mainly office type work, but same pay/band scale as the Psd blokes depending on position.

Hopefully you dont take this as a put down of any description, but i think you may struggle getting any security type contracts....But id imagine you may (if you have any intelligence and/or admin experience) be quite employable to the likes of Aegis...

Starling.......glad that your middle name is determine and that not all ex-military cut the mustard in the security industry.

Word of warning be carefull what you say, if you want to go out to HE work most operators will have some form of military or police background.

Also it would help if you can fill in forms and reports, like answer simple questions...............i'm reffering to your intro to the site!!!!!!!!!

i do happen to have a single slot for a female security specialist in Iraq right now...

but..

the US government dictates the experience required for the job (they are the customer).. and they want someone 25+ years of age, with a minimum of 4 years experience in the military or in law enforcement.. this person also has to hold a current equivalent of a US DoD SECRET security clearance from their home nation (coaltion nations only).

if you know someone that fits that description, i can have them on the next thing smoking towards Iraq..
