The appointment is for an initial duration of one year. It is exclusively related to United Nations technical cooperation activities. The contractual status of the selected candidate will be under the 100 series of the UN Staff Rules. Selection for this assignment does not imply access to further career development within the UN System. More Info United Nations Core Values: Integrity, Professionalism, Respect for Diversity Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Close Protection Unit (CPU), the incumbent is responsible for the following duties: Coordinate personal protection operations for the protected person when on duty; Remain within the proximity of the principal at all times; Remain vigilant and alert in case of any threat to the protected person and act accordingly; Conduct all personal protection security operations as outlined in the UN personal protection management guidelines; Coordinate all activities with relevant parties to include the Security Operations Unit and other appropriate security organizations, as required; Whenever necessary, supervise the personal protection drivers in the performance of their assigned duties; Operate all personal protection equipment and ensure equipment readiness; Carry all issued equipment while on duty; Conduct training on personal protection subjects; Possess excellent standard of punctuality and dependability of attendance; Carry out all other duties as assigned. Competencies Leadership- Demonstrated leadership skills in managing a personal protection operation. Through actions and activities, instills trust and confidence and motivates and inspires those under supervision. Is proactive and imaginative in developing strategies to accomplish objectives; Professionalism- Excellent knowledge of personal protection management combined with a solid background of military, police or other security specialization; Ability to deal with stress factors when encountered; Possess excellent standard of punctuality and dependability of attendance; Maintain cleanliness, tidiness, neatness and be appropriately attired while on duty; Behave in a professional manner at all times; Communication- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills and the ability to deliver information as required; Planning and Organization- Ability to develop clear goals and prioritize activities. Monitors and adjusts plans and uses time efficiently; Technological awareness- good technical skills to understand and consolidate the varying specializations such as electronics, communications, mechanics, weapons and other sophisticated devices encountered in personal protection operations; Ability to apply relevant software applications pertinent to the roles and responsibilities of the CPU; Teamwork- Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve Unit goals; Judgment and Decision-Making- Ability to make quick decisions in emergencies or when rapid response is required. QUALIFICATIONS Education High school diploma and relevant field and/or military or police academy training. Completion of international, national or commercial personal protection training is essential. Work Experience At least 5 years of substantive experience including last two years in conduct of personal protection. Languages The official working languages of the Extraordinary Chambers are Khmer, English and French. For this post, fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of French and/or Khmer desirable. Other Skills Advanced first aid training is considered an asset. The United Nations shall place no restrictions on the eligibility of men and women to participate in any capacity and under conditions of equality in its principal and subsidiary organs. (Charter of the United Nations - Chapter 3, article 8). English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. The United Nations Secretariat is a non-smoking environment. From my first experience of working with the UN in Bosnia '92, to Africa and elsewhere, I have nothing good to say about the UN, a sentiment shared by many of my colleagues and millions of dead people. However, do not allow my humble opinion to stall you or anyone from applying. But what I will recommend is that once you get in:
