Blackstone has a spectacular aura aboutBlackstone has a spectacular aura about
Thanks guys for the constant threads on this, I am open minded enough to undeRstand that there are always two sides to an arguement.

My thoughts are this;

1. The market isnt as flooded as the general perception seems to be, I just think that it is flooded with guys with minimal experience who become disheartened that they cannot find the 70 and 80 k tax free jobs anymore, like it or lump it, those days for many are gone. Those taskings exist, but solely for experienced operators and you know what, I think thats only right. Like any industry, this industry is now starting to reflect others, you start at the bottom and work your way in. Of course there are exceptions, SF, Special Operations and ex Mil with a specialist background (ex Rmp CPU, Dog Handlers, Tac Medics, FFL), these guys worked hard in the military to achieve there chosen goals and in my opinion deserve Willy Wonkas golden ticket. All the ex military guys had the option to gain these quals. So dont be bitter if others jump ahead, they deserve to. Others have to get by with a bit of luck, learning and gaining exp off others.

2. For those starting fresh, you get one pop at sending a CV, so get your mates or someone else to check your spelling and your grammar, and for f**k sake dont lie, you will be caught out e.g. the surv trg you do on a CP course, does not qualify you as a surv operator, the same as passing your mil first aid test doesnt make you a medic.

3. Starting fresh, if your emailing companies, be honest and don't just send one CV and forget about it, have the balls to follow it up with a phone call, be confident, think about what your going to say first, even write it down if needs be.

4. But remember, everyone has been where you are, everyone has been the new guy, but dont expect sympathy, just be confident and the RST job will lead into a CPO, which will lead to a TL's job. Invest the money you make, do courses, like the many on here, Morrigans, Global Tac Med and give your self more skills.

Anyway thats me done lol, sorry if I bored people, but hopefully if this helps one or two, its been worthwhile

Just remember this is an industry with some true professionals that I have been honoured to work alongside and train with, enjoy it, its good fun.

Stay Safe

While I agree that there is a lot of B/S on C.V's and a lot of guy's fall down once in theatre you have to get there first. In recent times I have applied for work and been told that the C.V is in the wrong format or that it has been retained as the position I have applied for is below my experience. All fair enough but the really annoying thing is when you dont even get confirmation that your C.V has been received, rejected or been placed on the data base. Even worse is when you have had the interveiw, been accepted and then all comms cease just before the job is due to start. I appreciate that when guy's advertise on this forum they put their own reps on the line and need to be carefull. In my own instance I dont agree with puting lies on the C.V and agree with a5955 but wish to point out that when another forum did the restricted forum bit most of what was advertised was U.S citizen only and coused major arguments.
I hope things get better for the guy's soon but in the meantime make sure your read the advert carefully and actually have the right experience.
Regards
Ageing

Blackstone,

You ask: Why do people who approach you on this forum in response to your job adverts?

I will ask: Why do you expect a different response on here than from other avenues?

I am an employer. I recruit. I expect about 80% of the applications I receive to containsome untruths, of varying degrees..

It is frankly the norm in recruitment... In any industry!

It is a pain and I wish it didn't occur, but, when I find myself needed to recruit, either for a full time position or a short term contract, I prepare myself for the lies and fudged facts.. In fact, most of the salesmen I have to deal with are just the same!

Blackstone, interesting debate and very well put. Everyone deserves a crack at the good, well paid and interesting jobs out there but you have to have the skill set to get there. The SF and Rmp CP idea is bang on. The guys have done the job for years on ops in the military and obviously have a head start but that's not to say they'll stay there. There are guys now who are depending on their military CP Cvs from 10 years ago and it hasn't changed (i.e. they haven't developed themselves and kept up to date) and then there's the guys who never did CP in the military who invest hard earned cash and leave time, study on ops etc, do voluntary work and attachments and push themselves forward at every opportunity. These guys will get great jobs and do very well. Deservedly so. Then there are the new guys, who do a basic course and sit back and wait for the gold and glory to come rolling in....and it doesn't.
It's all about development. CP is a much wider field than a 3 week course and climbing the ladder or remaining on it, requires a combination of experience (or gaining it), personal development, luck and contacts.

Staying on your subject. I recently posted a requirement for experienced Tactical medics, with recognised training quals. I was sent CVs by people who'd never even been on a first aid course, let alone had the ability and real world experience to teach it. Gents, I admire your spirit but this industry doesn't cater for people who can't read the question or job description. I don't recruit CPOs.

Stay safe

The current situation can be related to the mass exodus of the highly qualified Royal Signals personnel, long beofre the real commercial security sector kicked off in UK. Lads were leaving the signals (Corps in the army who deal with flashy, beepy, radios and comms stuff for those not in the know) and were earning mega bucks to help establishing tele communications companies.

Very soon 3 things happened.

1. Civvies got trained up. The market was flooded and wages went down
2. A time restricted trade bonus was given to serving / newly qualifed members of the corps
3. The lads re joined the army.

The point is, they were the most qualified and experienced people out there at the time. Many made a lot of money and then the industry turned. You wuldn't have expected a taxi driver, doorman or Rmp CP operator to have applied for those jobs, having had no formal training or experience.

You just have to luck at the London circuit. You have loads of doormen who have done a c.p course and got the job because their former employers from the clubs now provide c.p. The last couple of summers i have seen many guy's with shaven heads and facial jewelry jumping out of mercs in the west end. The problem is that is what goes down in town because these guy's work cheap. Also a lot of guys's from east europe now on the scene. This isnt to say that they are all bad but I personaly saw one guy who couldnt speak english and sported a bottle of vody while on duty, but he accepted 90 per day. not a C.V prob per say but it is the reality of my present experieince. On the other side if you dont want to work in the U.K you have to either be recently discharged or have been in Psd since the start. I suppose this means that although I dont agree with blagging but can understand why a newby may chance his arm. I know this doesent help the thread but it is an opinion. The other thing I have noted is that employers have been knownto promis the world to get you on the job only for you to find conditions bear little resemblence to the actual job. Anyway to those who I have sent my C.V to if you have any questions about content or think its in the wrong format etc please let me know as I can back mine up. Also I would advise dont give up hope and of course dont wait you have to work. But also do your follow up as I have seen to many people just apply and leave it at that.
Cheers

Blackstone,

Thank you for bringing this up. At least I know that I am not the only one receiving these annoying CVs. I have encountered the exact same thing these past six years that I have been hiring for assignments. The one positive thing is that (judging by this thread and comments)these Walters and Muppets are not doing a very good job of bluffing since we are able to spot them! I do not really agree that it can be blamed on a poor economy or over saturation of the market. I think it is a basic flaw in human nature - many people will lie to get ahead or to cover their own inadequacies. Stats show that approx. 40% of all CVs contain lies.

As Mr. Burns pointed out, it is not just in our industry. At the end of the day, the anitidote for dealing with CV liars is to catch them out and deny them the job that they are willing to cheat and lie to obtain. Any company who does not examine CVs closely and who hires someopne based solely upon what they wrote, deserves what they get. Remember - paper has never been known to refuse ink.
