I will throw the spanner in the works, we are issued the sig 522 commando, the folding butt version, i was dubious at first, but it has proved to be a good car weapon with a bit of range for a 5.56

When I was working convoy protection ( not the ones in the Atlantic) we used AK’s. Most contacts were close range from 20 feet up to 300 meters. The AK was and still is a good solid reliable weapon.

One of the lads had an SLR, I had a cabby on it that brought back some memories. He bind it in the end as it was not so practical.

I read somewhere that the Yanks are issuing the marines with an AR 14 /a10? 7.62 this is a squad support weapon. Is unt this the re invention of the wheel?

What the yanks are now using as sniper-support is based on the AR-10, its called the SR-25, made by Knights Armament and looks like a m16a4 in 7.62, give me a m14 EBR any day. Contractors and special forces and seem to be rethinking the benefits of 7.62- again.

Most with laugh at my choice of weapon. The SA80 with fitted SUSAT. I have used the G36, G3, MP5 (k, SD) but my love has always been for this one. I can head shot at 600 meters if needed and have never had a stoppage in 8 years of serving. I was once given some advice from a man in black and to this day that weapon has held strong for me.

i prefer the AR-15 family of weapons, though I've had a go with an F2000 and liked the feel, but i don't like the reloads. always like the rifle length as apposed to the carbine, but sometimes you just need a shorter weapon.

Legioner will become famous soon enough
Send a message via MSN to Legioner
If i could choose my choise would be a mp 5 or an Steyr AUG with two barrels.
To change the barrel it takes you 4 seconds and you can shot from 150 to 600 meters, for convoy u take the short barrel of course.
With the short barrel and the bullpub design i think you have a very reliable weapon otherwise in 4 seconds you can have a sniper rifle.
The MP5 i think is almost perfect for convoys because of its firepower
and sice. But basicly i think a 7.62 is the best option for the situations you can find
in iraq for exemple. An AK in 7.62 have the hell of a firepwer i wouldn't miss
in "difficult"situations.
