Head shoot with an SA80 with a SUSAT fitted at 600 metres, IF NEEDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry but something smells with that comment, the SA80 A2 is effective at 600 meters as a section weapon, that means all six guys in the eight man section firing, you might get lucky with the head shoot.

Sorry was that the HOLLYWOOD version of the SA80?

My honoust and simple view on this topic is:
I think it's the man or woman behind the weapon! If you can't hit a target with ur iron sights properly, you wouldn't be able to hit a target with a sight either.

An by the way, people that are talking about head-shot and popping targets at f**k knows how many miles away in Iraq are in the wrong profession, my opinion.

Unfortunaly a lot of people LIVING THE DREAM in Iraq

I would just like to add the SIG 552 commando, yes it is a one off for this line of work "CP"and yes it has its down sides like the plastic mags. You play around with it ,fit a fore grip and a EOTech SU231-and you have a very well balanced piece of hard wear.It is very well made very much so like the G36,it is just a shame that certain add ons are hard to come across, but if you look you will find.It would be nice to hear from anybody else that has used this in different arenas apart from the "sandpit".

G36 is my choice, it's got it all. 5.56MM Nato ammunition, light weight, robust, reliable, can be fitted with a rail and a Nato magazine adaptor, bad things are the problem of getting spare HK mags and the HK sight rail and mag adaptor. Next best alternative is the good old M4 family, same atributes as the G36, and no problem getting attachments etc for it. In the end it comes down to personal choice though.

I would agree with the M4, but since people in Iraq/Afghanistan sometimes have to fire multiple rounds of 5.56 I'd look into 6.8, as I said in a reply earlier, and you need less shots for a take down surely...especially in a civilian populated environments of today that, well, arn't warzones, such as the UK...that still need armed policing in some areas.

6.8mm would be good if the ammunition and a weapon system were available (for example the US Army XM8 assault rifle, which is a derivative of the HKG36, back to that beauty of a rifle again), and that will not be the case for a long time to come for the corporate world of security/military contractors.

So on a good day its back to the G36 or the M4, which you are only going to be lucky enough to get your hands on if you are on a government sponsored contract.

Failing that its back to the good old AK47 and here we could open a real can of worms on 7.62mm (soviet) short ammunition. I agree the weapon system is reliable and can be retrofitted with decent hand guards and sight rails etc and I do like it having used it. The main problem are magazines and ammunition as there is so much poor quality stuff out on the market, so be careful what you use.

Another alternative is the Serbian M21 (AK47 derivative in 5.56mm NATO), has the advantages of 5.56mm ammo, but in my opinion that is its only good point.

I'm sure there will be some more thoughts on this matter?

HALO61 will become famous soon enough
I'm currently researching the 6.8SPC for various Tactical Units and this is some of what I have discovered:

Current Quality Ammo Manufacturers: Hornady or Black Hill Sierra Match King with 110-115 grain. There are other manufacturers out there but I've not been able to try out their product.

The 6.8 SPC has 80% Terminal Ballistics of a .308/7.62, with 50% less recoil of the .308/7.62

Rifle Barrel Twist approx 1:10 inches.

During the research I did discover a quality 5.56 and 7.62 ammo manufactured by LaMas Ltd, worth taking a look at, if you are looking...

Also International Cartridge Corporation (ICC) is worth having a look at.

I hope this helps.

Stay Safe

H61

has anyone tried the Steyr aug with an acog scope?? also with the shortened barrel, works very well!! reliable and easy to use and clean!!

I personally love the G36, M4 next, last thing I'd use would be the SA 80, seems to be rear heavy, liked it at 1 point in my life till I pulled the cocking handle off! lol,
