I trained with the old HK family (and a lovely family it was aswell) but the question i ask the fellowship is whats your favourite long barrelled weapon?
I just luv the G3....man its a beast but when your up on the embassy roof and you need a bit of fire power to keep the flip flops heads down theres no better weapon for 'reaching out and touching people!' CM Last edited by covert munkey; 08-01-2008 at 11:14 PM. |

Covert
I agree the G3K is an ideal weapon sysytem. A bit heavy with the CWS, torch mount and full mag fitted. I have only seen the H&K 36 when a SO19 team visited my location and looked and felt the part however wasn't luckily enough to have a go on it. I'm currently issued a AMD 65 - a shortern barrel and folding stock member of the AK family. You have asked 2 questions here 1 about the weapon and the second about type of ammo in your title. As 5.56, 7.62 short and 7.62 NATO all have different characteristics, flight paths, penertation etc Thats before we start talking about what type charge and size of charge is filled within the round and the head fitted to the round. It is hard to state which is better than the other as each have pro's & con's. Many of us are not in the position to choose what ammo or weapon we use and have to get on with what we got. |

Hippo,
I got to play with the 36 system a while ago and it is a worthy heir to the G3 lineage... Very good, well designed and robust... Only down point is the 100 round mag isn't to hot... Best staying with the regular 30 round affair.. |

Although I have handled and used a variety of weapons I must say that my favourite was the G3, or the Barking Dog as it was affectionately called. It gave me a sense of security, just knowing that any attackers cover from fire had better be chuffin sturdy.
Mind you, I must say I nearly creamed my pants when we were issued the Minimi in Iraq!!!!! AJ |

I used the MP7, G36, and the C8 (long barrel and short) all fitted with gagets during my final tour (on a range day with other teams), whilst serving, and all are excellent weapons. The MP7 is a beast, for a short barrelled CQB weapon and as a replacement for the MP5K. It's now in service with the British MOD coppers looking after our Nuclear sites, such as Aldermaston.
It seems though that the days of exotic weapons are behind me. I carry the Tabuk AK47 varient (folding stock) and the Glock 19. Both good weapons, ideal for vehicle use as well. Never a shortage of spares, rounds or mags for the AK and easy to have fixed if it goes wrong and that for me is what counts at the moment! I still prefer the Sigg to the Glock but beggers can't be choosers. As for kit, Edgar Brothers are great. They get the kit to you as soon as they can and the stock range is great.
