Unless you are on an undercover assignment, I wouldn't stress out over casual wear. Obviously you need to be able to access any equipment you might have (comms, torch, weapon, etc.) but other than that, stay comfortable and mobile. Again, casual doesn't have to be stylish or loud, but functional.
On the other hand, If you hang out in the pub long enough, no one will notice you anyway, unless it's your round and you disappear. Jerry |

I still believe a dark grey suit and a white shirt with a dark/ discret tie is the best solution in the corporate world. Of course casual clothing is a must when its asked for..
When I have done CP tasks clients prefer this.. it looks nice, and look sharp.. Or casual clothing for work in the middle east etc..(dont want to stand out) I mean for the corporate / business world... hawk |

I think this thread could run & run. Simply because there are so many different tasks we carry out... Low profile/high profile. Hostile environment/low risk. Business/celeb... All require differing dress codes..

Agree. Can't speak highly enough of this brand(CH), which is also very affordable and available in all permutations of size and colour.

I'm wondering about using a outdoor clothes made by civilian companies. Correct me if I'm wrong, but during high profile work on such a harsh environment like Iraq or specially Afghanistan ( high mountains, snow, wind, cold ) it is vital to stay warm and dry during the duty. Please have on mind that I'm a beginner, and I've never work in war-zones and I could be simply wrong
. But during exercises on shooting range or any other courses, I always wear a outdoor clothes made by Karrimor, Berghaus or Salewa. A thin polar fleece plus softshell or gore-tex jacket always keeps me warm and dry even when it's raining or snowing. And trekking shoes have good grip on different surfaces like mud, sand or wet asphalt...Any opinions? Stay safe! |

This stuff works on my bike in cack weather, cold kllers from planet knox (look in motorcycle shops) as a base layer, you can 'gimp' yourself right up head to foot, mask and all. this stuff is waterproof, windproof, breathable and very very light weight. then add a top layer to suit, this stuff works really well also look out for a technical material called 'outlast' amazing stuff!
alot can be learnt from die-hard motorcyclists and layers are the key to minimise bulk and maximise effectiveness. |

Unless you are really attempting to remain covert, the rule of thumb that I believe applies to most Close Protection details is this: Do not outdress or embarrass the principle. If it's a corporate gig, dress like the average employee. Would you look like someone the boss would have lunch or dinner with? Or someone who would accompany him/her to a meeting? If you're attending a casual gathering, again, look to the boss for guidance. I once learned that casual meant sport jacket and tie, rather than suit and tie. Ever play "can you spot the bodyguard?" Different meaning in my little world where jeans and polo shirts rule the day.
