can anyone make a quick list of what kit and equipment people are deploying with.

As to your question on kit selection, that really depends on a multitude of things, such as;
What’s the job PSD: CP, Convoy or Static?
How long is the deployment?
Where is the deployment? (Climate, Hot temperate or cold…)
What kit will you be issued when you start your deployment?

My rule is the KISS rule;
1x Hard case with wheels (Storm/Pelican)
1x Day Sack (Spec-Ops/Blackhawk/Maxpedition/Tactical Assault Gear etc…)
1x Crash Out / Bail Out Bag (Blackwater/Extreme Gear Labs/Tactical Assault Gear)
1x Cheap Laptop
1x Memory Stick (1 to 2GB)
1x Monocular 10x25 (Tasco not Tesco)
1x Box of Batteries (AA, AAA, CR123A 3v)
1x Box of 12 hour Cyalume’s (Red/Green/ Blue/IR)
2x Flash lights/Torches (NOVATAC 120T & Typhoon X2 with GG&G TDI attachment)
1x ACR MS-2000 (M) Search & Rescue Strobe

Hell yeah, just remember that when you deploy as a contractor you must do your best to look stylish in front of the troops and also let them to continue to believe that contractors have such an easy life.

I would'nt personally take all that kit out with me, as you can get most of it from the PX/NAAFI. Remember most Airlines only allow 20 kilos baggage allowance and with all that kit you'll need your own plane. Then there is always Mail Order most equipment suppliers send out to BFPO Addresses or even APO (American). Most en vogue clothing at the mo is 5.11 either Oakley SI Boots or Meindl or even Converse. Whoever you get a job with they will or should provide you with a Kit List to bring out. Good luck whoever you work with.

Hi Airborne,

In my experience if you are lucky enough to be on a contract that allows you to have access to a PX/NAAFI and a regular mail you can do what AlexinIraq suggest, but last time I was there, due to the job we only got access to a PX/NAAFI/Mail/DFAC once a week or once every 2 weeks, and 9 times out of 10 the kit you wanted was not available, from the PX/NAAFI and mail was sporadic at best.
