sig has mainly been a standard issue weapon because of its reliabilty, but I think in this discussion if everyone was given a sig or glock 19 there would be no one complaining.

glock 17 for me, very reliable, also had the 26, small and very discreet but the short barrel makes it less accurate on quick draw on your first round. or maybe just my aim!

Personally, its a Glock 17 or 22 for me... with the sig 226 or 229 as a second choice. Mind you, there's nothing wrong with the CZ75... its a robust simple sidearm, which is user friendly ( i.e idiotproof!
)At the end of the day, its a tool to do a job. As long as its clean and tight, and the ammunition is up to spec, there's nothing to complain about..... unless you are issued with a Makarov or a Tokarev... in which case, I'd be tempted to shoot the contractor with it! |

I have shot many different handguns and loved and hated different makes and models for whatever reason. Most modern pistols from the well known manufacturers are going to be good quality. I guess it comes down to which one I have with me when I need to use it. I've carried several different Glocks (17, 19 and 22) and I'm getting ready to switch out to the Smith and Wesson M&P .40 cal.

Good point Alianza regarding the Makarov...they are cheap to buy, and easy to locate, however there are are reliability and manufacturing quality issues with some sidearms - and I personally feel that some of the old "Eastern Bloc" (are we even permitted to use the term these days??) tools fall into these categories - and yes, I have used them.. both as training tools, and on ops.
If you want concealability, most of the mainstream manufacturers provide a suitable alternative. At the end of the day, it depends what the contractors budget will stretch to. I suppose in an ideal world, we'd all deploy with a brand new Glock, Sig or Colt perhaps... and a nice shiny M4 for those "hard to reach" areas! How many operators have been handed a rusty old AK in the past, and been told "its fine, just needs a little oil thats all??!" Incidentally, JasonBulla's comment about the SS190 make interesting reading. It does apparently, do what it says on the tin.... but the 5.7x28 has yet to really prove itself as a man stopper... and how many people have engaged targets at 200M effectively?. The weapon has only been adopted by five countries, and not as a mainstream sidearm. If we discuss suitable calibres for a moment, my own personal fave is the .40 S&W... and I would be interested to hear other peoples comments on this. Its a pity its not more widely adopted and available in my opinion.. because it works. As for shooting contractors - The equipment is not a huge bugbear - you just get on with it.... now, if they don't provide NATO standard wets on deployments, they are fair game as far as I'm concerned! |
