Hi just wondering what side-arms people prefer. I'm particularly fond of the H&K USP, due to its high calibre round, great stopping power, durability, excellent accesories, ambidexterity and lets not forget the way it easily field strips. But hey i haven't used a whole lot of side arms so anyone got any other preferences?

Ive only used the Sig Sauer 229. Simple easy and effective, the double trigger pressure takes abit of getting used to though!

Yep the sig I used was setup so the first shot would require a bit more pressure with all subsequent shots being easier to fire.

I've also use the browning which a bit heavier..

Some UK police forces use the P229 also, some setup with the lighter trigger pressue perminently, and some setup with the heavier trigger pressure required, wierd!

well not really. Not a licensed operator at the moment. I'm getting my Commercial Pilots license so i can pay for my training. I really want to get into CAT service. But i do hit the range when i'm back in my country. Only fired the USP twice but i loved it both times. Need to try the Sig because i've heard nothing but good things about it. mostly i use the Beretta at the range and a berreli shotgun, My friends Dad has an old Remington rifle that i particularly love because its just so damn accurate and easy to handle. Has anyone fired the Jericho? It looks gorgeous, just wondering if its as good in action as it does sitting on display. The specs are a little disappointing though, lack of rounds in the cartrage is a bit of a let down...

Well i can tell the the Compact 941 Jericho 9mm ends at looking gorgeous!! I recently used the pistol for 2 months as it was issued by the company as a PPW. Let me list the disadvantages:-
1.It is about as compact as having a brick in a holster.
2.The top slide is a lot thinner than an average pistol so making ready can be quite difficult.
3. The slide locking lever is to far forward to lock the working parts to the rear, without moving the pistol in your hand to gain purchase.
4. Trigger is weak and slow, causing problems when trying to double tap...even with good ammunition.
5. It wieghs over a kilo aswell
So if i were you i would leave it in the gun cabinet in the gun shop looking gorgeous, where it belongs!!
As the guys above have mentioned the Sig 226 is one hell of a pistol, and so is the HK USP, i can vouch for them as i have used them both.
However where i live and work at the moment concealability is the name of the game, i was going to go for the Glock 19 as again i am familiar with its operation, this is classed a compact pistol but i recently used the Glock 26 which is a Sub-compact pistol which again chambers a 9mm round.
The model i fired had been upgraded with a new compensator, which increased muzzle velocity and decreased the barrel rise considerably allowing a very close 2 round group on the double tap.
Also after a bit of investigation i found that due the the frame of the pistol been the same as the 17/19 you are able to fit either the 15 or 17 round magazine, although you will have to fit an adaptor to the magazine, as the standard issue magazine the 26 comes with forms part of the actual grip.
I also carry as back up a Walther P22, again a very compact pistol, one slight disadvantage though it is .22 which doesnt have much stopping power, but used in the right way can lead to the target dropping just as well as a 9mm or .45.

For me,

The Glock 17,good trigger pressure and a variety of quick draw holsters available from fobus. Easy to strip and assemble.
I favour this from the sig,although the first trigger pressure after cocking is increased to act as a safety,i find unless you are constantly using it there is a tendancy to pull the first shot.

Glock 17, with only a couple of stoppages in 150.000 rounds, its the one for me.

It isn't the weapon which has the stopping power its the round, and for any hand gun you will want 115 grain minimum, this will be on the base of the round sometimes if not on the box. The police used to use 95 grain so the round didn,t over penetrate, problem being one round would not "stop" the suspect so ultimately more rounds have to be used.

glock 19 compact did it for me! simple to use , no dangly bits to get caught up on clothing ,high capacity mag and easy to conceal what more can a bod ask for ..whoops one last thing only stoppages i had was firing nato rounds be warned

only ever really fired the Glock 17, it was an old training pistol but i absolutely loved it!

it was very simple and easy to operate and maintain!

one stoppage though in a couple of thousand rounds.

my personal favourite is my old stable goverment model colt 45 obviously modified but other wise pretty much original
i always find if theyre hit they fall down and stop what they were doing

for many years i used to carry a model 27 or a 29 S&W but one shootout cured me of that no matter how fast you reload you cant beat a magazine change
