Hello guys,

Looking at moving into CP/Surv instructing when i get out.

I'm after info on companies that can provide the City and Guilds 7303 Preparing to teach in the life long sector(PTLLS) as i understand this qual is required by the sia.

The company must be accredited by ELCAS so i can use my Enhanced learning credits.

Also looking at doing FAAW instructor course, City and Guilds 1886 (delivering conflict)and of course the bloody CP refresher course.

Last question. How do you become recognised by the SIA as an instructor?

This is quite a specialised question so would really appreciate any info from existing CP instructors currently working the circuit.

Thank you.

CM

co19 will become famous soon enough
its actually the accreditation bodies like C+G/Edexcel/Bucks New Uni who you have to satisfy. The companies are actually the accredited with the sia

No, the other North! is on a distinguished road
Re 7303 and similar - get in touch with your local polyversity/college, see what they've got. Near me you can do this and much higher, I'm on 7407 Cert Ed, which I'm doing one evening per week (four hours college, about eight hours undisturbed homework, which is where the challenge lies). Mirror course runs daytimes too, and there's two other venues within 25 miles offering the same. This alone will pretty much guarantee you at least an interview for a teaching job in most adult education enviroments: you will be accredited at writing course syllabii and getting it externally verified, which to some companies will be more important than your actual teaching skills, it gives them their badge of integrity. C&G speaks a totally different language to EdExcel, for example.

The same input over another three years will pick up a Batchelor of Education degree, god knows what full-time students in uni are doing with their time. A lot of these qualifications in teaching are generic, they're not fussed about your specialised subject, just so long as you can evidence , e.g., 60 hours teaching delivery during your year of study, along with, say, four opportunities for an external assessor to come along and do what assessors do (and, as they're all academic ladies, they generally go all gooey over the students at testosterone-central HQ). Never had a bad write-up, but seen some shaky handwriting!

Also, many grants are not means tested, which gives you (well, the colleges) gubmint money whether you're an earner or not, just wade through the paperwork. They really do want teachers, honestly. Hope this helps.

Place your mouse arrow over the abreviation of Cpu. It should be underlined in blue.

CPU is an abreviation of the Close Protection Unit. CPU is a department within the British Army's Royal Military Police. They train Rmp to become Body Guards. All courses are closed to civillians.

Hope this helps it a bit clearer.

OK Guys I am going to put my two pennies worth in on this one..............

For my sins I work as an External Advisor for Bucks New University, formally BCUC,
so I have the great privilege of working with the likes of Anubis, Nemesis, CTR, Longmoor, etc (sorry if I have missed anyone). The training arena is nearly as bad as the CP market passe, it has become flooded with those who think they are instructors and those who ARE dam good instructors.

As mentioned there are three Awarding Bodies involved with the CP accreditation and they have all translated the sia core competencies differently but in saying that the end product should be the same, providing the instructors are knowledgeable in the area of their chosen subject matter. Instructors come from all backgrounds, some more experienced than others and it is finding that niche area which is your own forte and with this you will develop your own style and so long as this gels with the rest of the team that's great, but don't carry a team as this will create problems and resentment.

The City and Guilds training awards are good but I would also recommend any which are through the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (TDLB Quals). What do I know about training, well I have been a trainer for 15 yrs, worked with the Tri Services in Scotland and possibly assessed some of the guys who hold the former D32/33 awards (now A1/2) from the mid 90's and recently graduated from Leicester University with my MSc.

That being said there is a dire need for quality training and instructors, instead of seeing it as a quick way to make money, think of the end result - would you want someone who has no previous experience, who has just completed a CP course in 10 days (yes this is happening), to look after the most valuable thing we have - LIFE? Apart from that aim for the best as NTON pointed out it may open other avenues in teaching.

NTON, some of us ladies can restrain ourselves from going all gooey, it is more likely that they are getting you do actually do what they want!!! :-) Ha ha ha we have our methods and they usually work................

If anyone wants more info please feel free to send me a message and I will get back to you ASAP.

Covert Monkey,

It has been many years since I was playing soldiers and to be able to do the CP course you either had to be in the MPs or at Hereford as I applied for the CP course in the early eighties. Is the CPU course now open to all units and if successful are there attachments to the unit? How does it work with the RAF Police and Navy (Marines) are they working independently or is the course Tri Service? As AVL said in the previous post about instructors there are good ones and not so good. The three services are no different all have there own ways on procedures. I would like to think that there is more cooperation between services. Are students that go through the course taking the SIA exam? And can a TA MP be attached to the CPU and do a tour? Just a few things I thought about

If you are looking at getting qualification to teach in Civi Street you should be able to convert some of your military quals depending on your rank unit. My advice is to go for the 5 day C&G 7303 it will cost you more money than going to college and doing the same course over 12 weeks and with some of the private training companies you can combine courses such as C&G 7303 and FAAW Instr or C&G 7303 and C&G 1886 it all depends what you prioritise. Depending on the training provider you maybe able to use your learning credits and costs vary from training provider
