A basic level of fitness is a must for any BG or prospective BG, the hours can be long and standing on your feet all day takes it toll. So if your over weight DIET, If your unfit and wheezing after a small jog, GET FITTER.
You dont need to be a gym jockey or a marathon runner, just healthy wealthy and wise. FBG |

Unfortunately the basic SIA accredited course does not require any physical fitness or for that matter eyesight or hearing standards. Shocking but true. Hopefully most of the course providers will not pass people who not are up to suitable levels, but its going to vary from course to course.

I know some courses require a certain standard of fitness not like the old days when all of them did, but it is a personnel thing and my advise is to in top shape regardless of the courses requirement and good luck

Unfortunately its a very minimum standard of fitness required. Put it this way, if you can spell Gym and do up your trainer laces then you will pass.

A good level of fitness is a must. On my course one of the exercises was to escort the VIP on an early morning run. Of course the VIP was an ex Para racing snake who ran the arse of us all. All the D/S had experience of this in real life so it does happen and is very embarassing when you cant keep up.
Top tip for that is to take a car along........for emergencies of course, like the CP team taking a heart attack.

Fitness will help with the demanding schedule (as mentioned), it will also mean the difference between actually functioning after a sprint, or huffing and puffing.
Fitness is more important than any other physical skill, without it, you will not be able to perform physically under stress (physical stress). As a CP professional, fitness must become an integral part of your way of life. Not being fit can very well cost both your and your principals' lives. mts |

At the end of the day to make a career in CP you need to be prepared, part of that is mentally, part is physically. You need physically to work on things like muscular endurance- not marathon running but sprints and short/ mid distance up to 3 miles, weight carrying/ dragging- go for a 180lb weight for 50 metres- and grappling strength. As a good guide look at Gavin de Becker's- US CP firm- website, they have a good selection course for their aganets. Should give you some idea of the fitness that you need- not just for your course but for your career.
