hi there. Im gonna be doing my course in the next few weeks and was wondering what kind of fitness level I need to be at? Im no couch potato and i do plenty of excercise every week from running on the beach, Circuit training to swimming.
Is there any major physical strain during the course? many thanks |

No mate, it will be a doddle!
But fitness is a personal thing and having a high level of fitness will benefit you greatly in all areas of CP. CM |

fitness is not a requirement of any course, our should not be. It is a personal thing like CM saaid. Being fitter will make you sharper. Above all make sure you are able to pick up you principal and run at least 100m.

Yes,I agree with CPT291, You have to be able to lift-maybe a dead wieght-for a good 100m to 400m.
Sturdy footwear will also help. You get some new bods on the course with brand new Lowas who are crippled after the first day! Hope this helps and Good luck! You will love it! Gobbo |

Most courses will have some form of fitness throughout, whether this is right or wrong is arguable, however as pointed out already by experienced operators its a personal thing. Nothing worse than a CPO with a beer belly and who is out of breath if he has to walk anywhere. Some of us are in the 40 + age bracket and we still try to keep a level of fitness going

Hi Kasmir
Fitness is your choice I am a Personal Trainer and former PTI in the SADF. The link below is to a Ronin site this will give you an idea of where you should be or at least what you should be aiming for. Most courses are a breeze for fitness with your training outlines you should not have a problem. Depending on your contract you can end up in situations where you will be stationary for long periods of time either on you backside or on your feet. If you are not fit and don’t have a reasonable amount of stamina your muscles will begin to ache and you start thinking about how you feel instead of thinking about your client. (Even top chess players spend hours in the gym to aid concentration) Or the alternative…if the client wants to go for a run hey can you keep up or will you have to shoot them in the leg just to slow your client down. Don’t do anything drastic before the course but once you are done start doing 25-50-100-150-200m sprint drills to improve stamina. If anyone ever wants any help please send me a PM Enjoy your course Kashmir Ronin Protective and Paramedical Services Last edited by TOADWART7; 14-04-2008 at 09:42 PM. |

I'm doing a civvie job atm in the carpet industry so i carry dead weights all the time. plus I know what its like to sit on my backside for hours on end patiently waiting for something to happen, haha (thanks toadwart7). oh, also i sometimes carry a 30 kilo weight on my back when running.
again thanks alot for the advice/info. Last edited by kashmir; 15-04-2008 at 05:57 PM. Reason: wanted to delete. nevermind |

I would also like to ask your guys opinion because i'm not sure yet whether the opportunity ive been offered is too good to be true or not.
I've been told that im gonna be doing the basic CP course in this country and if i impress the cp trainers enough, i will be sent out to northern Iraq to do the advanced aspects of the job. Then i will be working in northern Iraq for a 8 week on 4 week off rota over one year. I have also been told that it will all be paid for then taken out of my wages later on. too good to be true (as is the usual case)??? cheers............ now im off to Circuit training to murder my muscles! |
