Hi Vespe,
I'm not really sure if you actually get a qualification for completing a firearms module within a CP course. Maybe someone out there can enlighten me on that one as well. Clearly there has to be competence from your side in the use of the weapon and that you are considered a safe user during live firing practices. You will probably find that those people who teach you are just passing on their knowledge from what they learnt in the military/police and I will be surprised if any have the proper authorisation to offer you any law abiding qualification. A knowledge of using firearms and how they are utilised in a CP role is vital for you to work in the CP world in Iraq or Afghanistan and these modules prepare you for that. You must also remember that once you have been trained on a certain type of weapon it may not be the one you next pickup or are issued with and the process starts all over again. NSPs, stripping and assembling, loading, making ready, making safe, unload, firing, stoppages ect ect ect. Once these are mastered you can practice your contact drills. Training records will normally be kept by PSCs in the event of an incident and so your training log becomes a sort of legal document to say you are current and nothing else You never stop learning with weapons as there are so many out there and the key is to become familiar with as many as you can if you are intending to go into that environment. As for qualifications - I dont think so! Turanian |

Hi Ram,
NRA UK quals are ok if you want to improve on your shooting skill (agreed) and if vespe wants to become a coach or improve on his static shooting skills then these are fine. If hes talking about qualifications for the CP world then the best they offer are personal satisfaction. According to their site they run courses such as target rifle skills, clay pidgeon shooting, a wind coaching course, a Range qualification Officer (RCO) course which is valid for 6 years but only allows you to run the shooting on a MoD or TAVRA range. You would not be covered legally by their qualification if you taught say in Iraq. The only pistol firing they do is with the muzzle loading pistol (Sharps rifles springs to mind here) as this is one of the few permitted form of pistol shooting that is allowed in the Uk under present rules. NRA America may give you access to more advanced pistols and they take people from beginner to advanced to expert level. The NRA UK only provide NRA course certificates and the National Governing Body (NGB) qualification. if its these sort of qualification youre after vespe - its a case of with boots will travel. turanian |

I did the NRA pistol and Rifle during the Trojan Psd course. They told me that the NRA qualifications last a life time and are internationaly recognized.

NRA quals are good. Before asking which courses are recognized, one should understand what does "recognized" mean?
It means that when you go for a job, or send in your CV, the potential employer will look at the firearms course you've done and see it as a benefit to his/her organization. Several factors can affect this: * Has the recruiter heard of the training company * If so, what are his/her thoughts about the company * What standard of people graduate from this companies courses? Do you want to be associated with them? * Who manages and teaches at the training company? What is their real world training background? * How established/new is the company? All these factors will come into play when a recruiter sees your CV. There are a lot of good firearms schools out there; from what i understand (not from first hand knowledge), some of them are here on this forum. As i mentioned above NRA is a good start, but there are many good scholls that do not hold NRA certified courses that are very very very good. As an example, no school in Israel is NRA recognized, but i personally would not look anywhere else (no offense to you guys :-) ). NRA should be seen as another baseline, not THE baseline or standard for tactical firearms training. Good luck with whatever you choose. m |

There are some good firearms training courses in the US also, and with the current exchange rate in the Pounds favour this would be a good time to take a look.
