Our next CPO course is in a couple of weeks time from 7th-20th July, and we have just put together the course dates for August, 18th-31st. (We run them over fourteen days straight - its intense, but it makes it a lot easier for people who find it hard to take three weeks off work).

I have seen some of the recent posts concerning prices, quality and other stuff, so here is my view:

I wish everyone here good luck, and I am certainly not going to bad-mouth people, especially as the majority of posters I have not met. One of the skills of a good CPO is to be able to sum people up pretty quickly, and as other posters have mentioned, the people who run a quality product will probably still be here in a couple of years time, and the people who don't, won't!

I have been lucky enough to have spent many years in this industry, and have worked with top teams from all over the world, and in general the really good ones are people who you will like, respect and probably enjoy having a beer with. The ones who come across as pushy, loud-mouthed and trying to always get to the front of the queue - well, we can all make up our own minds about them.

At the end of the day, some of it comes down to the feel of the course, but there are always details that can help you make up your mind. Here are some of ours:

Meido has had over three hundred people complete the sia CPO course, so we must be doing something right. We are a functioning operational company, including running the Moscow security operation for a UEFA Global Sponsor in the recent European Champions League Final; we put together a complete evacuation programme within twelve hours for a flight crew stuck in in the troubles in Beirut last month (we took out fifteen memebrs of the international community from there within twenty-four hours of the Israeli airstrikes in 2006); Meido is responsible for the security and country evacuation plan for up to fifty engineers for a major Japanese company in the Middle east...etc etc.

Meido graduates work with some of the largest corporations in the world, often at TL and Operational Manager level.

We run our courses in a 'realistic' manner, ie we treat the students as responsible adults, and not like 17-year old squaddies. We try to get people to gain as many skills as possible in a short time, and to prepare them both to get work and to be good enough to keep it when the opportunity comes.

I also teach on the Scarman Centre / Leicester University Security and Risk Management MSc programme, as well as being a dissertation supervisor on that programme. (I recently was a visiting lecturer on the Global Terrorism and Policing module). I was a featured speaker to over forty senior Japanese security managers on the subject of Crisis Response and Large Scale Operational Management last month, and have been invited to give a presentation to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department at the end of July on the subject of lessons that can be learned from the Israeli / US / UK counter-terrorism programmes.

I am not saying this to brag, just to put our credentials on the table so that people know who we are.

We enjoy what we do, and from what we have heard so far, so do our students.
