rictrahen is on a distinguished road
I am looking at a move to the U.K at the end of the year after discharge with Australian Army is complete. Apart from a CP course which I am planning to do as soon as I get to the U.k, is there any other short courses that people can recommend that I do before I come over that will aid my chances or help me to better my skills when working as a CPO and to also gain employment.
A friend said to me about doing a course in things like Table etiquette etc. Is stuff like this going to look good on my resume or is it just a waste of time.
Your comments and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
rich

It all depends on what type of CP work your looking for my friend. Horse riding, scuba diving, sking, languages, ettiqute etc are all important in some areas, while firearms, advanced trauma care etc would be more suitable in others

Hi Rich,

In addition to our regular Surveillance training courses, we conduct a 3 day Counter Surveillance Course designed for CPO's, which may be of interest to you.

More details can be found on our website. Surveillance Training - ISS Training Limited

If you haven't had any specialist driver training, may we also suggest Mark Kendrick from Bespoke Driver Training. Bespoke Driver Training

Regards

Peter

If i were you you see if you can get on a good body language course and study human psychology.. Its amazing what you can pick up which will be invaluable both when it comes to keeping your client safe and also with the little nuances of social interaction and also fitting into teams etc. Might sound a bit tree huggy for some but hey, sometimes a little edge is all you need.

Loads more things you can do but i will let someone else make a contribution.

I agree with Hippy that it is important to decide what type of CPO that you are going to opt for. If it is in the business environment then I suggest that you make sure that you can ski, swim and horseride as a minimum on the sports side. In addition to that consider a basic first aid at work course that includes paediatric first aid and an institute of advanced motorist course both of which can be completed in Australia. Nice to have but not essential would be a Surveillance course but more importantly get to know London, walk round all the key venues and every shop that may be used by the clients. Buy a satnav and drive round get to know the main feeder routes particulary when driving in from the suburbs.

Good advice from Fulcram reference the local knowledge of London etc... it always helps to be aware of an area in addition to the advance work you will do with the team ...

I can recommend a good meds course, many of the etiquette points raised will be covered to some extent on the CP course you attend... in general you wont be asked to play polo , attend gala dinners etc (might happen but rare) and in general as long as you avoid, burping , ass blasting, chewing with your mouth open and dress accordingly...and avoid conversation regarding genital warts, ring sting and other topics we generally get drawn into with mates... you should be ok as far as that aspect goes!

Scuba diving can be useful, driving is an essential, Surveillance and SD are good additions.
