Brummie,
Thanks for that. As a couple of people have mentioned, it is nice to be involved in a professional, adult discussion that gets everybody going but in an articulate, positive manner. There may be hope for the industry yet! Best regards to all, David |

Having read this lively debate, I unfortunatley agree with both sides.
One thing that should be mentioned with regards to those thinking of attending or applying for the Meido CP course, and that simple fact is, David himself. I am not at liberty to discuss on this forum, Davids background, but I will say he brings a great deal of credible experience, skills and most importantly knowledge, which is invaluable. For those that attend this course and I for one would reccomend it, then they will walk away with far geater depth of knowledge than the sia syllabus dictates, which when attempting to mitigate risk internationally or within the UK will prove worthwhile. |

No Course however long will produce CPO's, what it will do is give students a grounding to start learning the job, much as an apprentice does when learning a trade. we all have to start somewhere! For those with the experience already the Course at the level set was basic to say the least, however Davids methods of teachin are amongst the best i have come across, and the syllabus will take you over and above the minimum requirements. indeed i have incorprated some of this into the way i instruct.
The system is here to stay, its down to the guys on the ground to take in the fresh, and bring along to an acceptable standard, much as we used to do in the military, at the end of the day it a licence the training comes on the job starting at the bottom and working up the ladder. Military or civillian background there is a niche for both. regards Harry |

I'd just like to add to this post,
As far as Meido goe's David is an excellent motivator, trainer, and all round old hand in the CP world. I did my sia CP training with David and while we locked horns on occassion due to unrelated issues, I found Meido to be an extremely professional company with many diverse guests from an array of different backgrounds. This is not a jibe at scab but I have completed two close protection courses prior to training with David one military & one private pre-SIA, so I consider myself qualified to rate, for the money and time involved and considering the syllabus laid down by the SIA, I can honestly say there were aspects of Davids course which I found very enlightening. That is to say yes it is basic in so far as the drills involved i.e. embus/foot drills/etc, however planning, briefing, and the minute attention to detail demanded by David reminded me of my military training and really stood to refresh me in that aspect. I would also point out that should an intermediate or advanced course become part of the career advancement requirments by the SIA, it is safe to say the drills would become far more engaging for those of us long standing operatives within the industry. I can agree with S.Hopkins the "right candidate's" on this course can be brought up to TL/OPs management level by Davids instruction. In summation I hold David in very high regard and would recommend his course to anyone new to CP as an Industry aswell as any old hands in need of a licence. Many Kind Regards Kodris |
