I`ve recently passed my ronin concepts hostile environment course, and need some advice about how to make my self more employable to the recruiting companies. What extra courses should i do to improve my chances. i.e Surveillance , hostage and kidnap or more weapons courses. I was also thinking about doing a cctv course just to add to my profile.. I would appreciate any help you may give.. many thanks....

hi ram man, my background is 8 years in royal signals as an electircian. i`ve done one tour which was op telic 3. Ideally would like to get out to a hostile country for work, but i know i need more expeirence first, so i`ll take any work in uk. Do you know of a company that runs a good sniper course as it would add an extra tick in the box for recruiters. many thanks for your help...

neiljordan will become famous soon enough
As a general point, courses to make yourself more employable would include Medic and Comms type stuff. If you can get yourself on a Remote Medic or PHTLS course you'll make yourself attractive to any PSC employer. Equally if you can gain knowledge of comms equipment/signals type stuff, again you'll make yourself more employable.

Whilst I don't want to be seen to be putting down the Sniper and weapons side of things, working in a PSC type scenario, a sniper is not advantageous when in CQ's around the streets of Baghdad for instance. Unless you're on a roof, doing area denile or Rst work there isn't much call for someone qualified in this. At least not in my experience anyway.

Spend your money wisely, a good training company will advise you properly if they have the knowledge and background, especially in the HE areas and I doubt a 'sniper' course will be the first thing they recommend you get under your belt?

Morrigans seem to be experienced and have good write ups on the site, especially for courses after you've qualified as a CPO. I see they've already contacted you, so you'll find out for yourself what else you can do to make yourself more attractive to future employers.

Neil

Agree with Neil reference the requirment for a sniper course,

If you have selected this as a skill you wish to add to your CV then it is something that we can provide to you, after all it is ultimately your choice.

I am not aware of what training courses you have attended nor what skills you already possess so therefore I would suggest speaking to us personally and we can work from there.

As regards the need for sniper quals in HE work, really it depends on the contract. Many of the Force Protection roles for instance on Victory base camp, have a sniper requirement built into the job description.
It is advantageous to have a sniper capability for the ASP / FOB protection contracts, especially the more isolated ones such as buckmaster, Arlington and ASP3 ... this is a skill that is not a prerequisit but will be viewed as giving an advantage.
On convoy missions in and around Al Anbar (west of Ramadi) sniper capability was afforded to the CET especially on the slow abnormal load moves.
I agree that the use of snipers is low on ordinary 'up and down the BIAP' Psd moves and as such it comes down to the role you are trying to gain employment for.

Thanks for the imput guys.

The problem i have at the moment is that i`ve passed my hostile environment course at Ronin , and i am now waiting for my sia licence, but i thought that it wouldn`t be a problem getting work in iraq and afghan but all the CV`s i have sent off have all said that there are no slots avaible. So i just need advice about to make myself more employable. even thought about taking pay cut just to get out there. i just need the first step on the ladder and then i`ll be happy . many thanks ..............

Have Ronin pointed you in the direction of who is currently employing... were you told they could assist you in future employment , do you have any previous security / Mil / Bill experience or what is your background in all of this.

I am not familiar with your particulars as Marcus dealt with this... If you did a HECPO course and have not found work then it is likely that you are unqualified/ experienced... and as such you were mis sold ... and If you were experienced enough with a verifiable background then I suggest looking at your CV ... adding a good covering letter ... send it individually to each provider... not as a bulk or spam... and call up a follow up if possible.
Ask Ronin who they can recommend you send to and whether they are aware of who is recruiting currently.....

If they are unwilling/unable to help you then I would suggest that you seek further training that would be conducive with sia licencing etc and get some time in Security under the belt.

Good Luck ....

As Marcus states , maybe you should try to reply to mails that companies / employers bother to send you in reply to your questions ... always reflects well on you !!!
