Hello Grettle 17 and welcome to the Forum, nice intro, the black type on a black back ground is particularly effective, the camouflage perspective is a nice touch!! Grettel? wasn't your 'other half' called Hansel? Is this course held in an enchanted wood maybe at a ginger bread cottage?
Wembley Stadium, Does your course programme include 'How to stop the Jocks from stealing the goal posts'? |

We just ran an 8 day CP course in Minden, Ontario (Canada). We will be conducting more courses at the same facility. For more information, please visit Executive Security Services International
We had SWAT and Private Security guys on the course. The Swat guys brought their MP 5's/M4 on the course. As long it a registerd facility there is no worries. In Canada, there are federal laws and provincial laws, just like in the United States (Federal and States Laws). Things are a little different from one province to another. But basically, there is nothing specific to CP work in the laws, which means you are not different from any citizen. Civilian bodyguards are not allowed to carry weapons. Security personnel have no power other than the normal citizen.
In order to offer security services, you need to be a registered security company, such as Garda and many others. For instance, if I do CP work in Montreal, my relation with the client has to go through a registered company. But then, if you work freelance and are hired by a businessman for protecting him, you can officially be anything: his personal advisor, his chauffeur, his business partner, etc. I don't see how the law can be enforced in these conditions. But don't go and advertise your company as a security agency if you are not registered. Is there any work for bodyguards in Canada? Here in Montreal, the offer exceeds by far the demand. Bodyguard services are offered by many security agencies and, sadly, some of them employ people with no experience or training whatsoever. When you apply for a security company, you need to get a license from the government. As long as you are not a criminal and you pay the fees, you get the license. There's no requirement in terms of training or skills. I've seen people with absolutely no knowledge at all about security doing close protection jobs. The time is surely ripe in Canada for a major shift in the security business. Francois CPS - FMT Francois M. Private Security & Investigative Services
Licenses and Forms On Aug. 23, 2007, the Private Security and Investigative Services Act came into effect in Ontario. The new law requires all security industry workers to be licensed, including some that were not licensed previously. If you are a security guard, private investigator, bodyguard, bouncer or loss prevention personnel, you must now apply for a licence from the ministry. Executive Security Services Internationall is fully licensed/insured to provide personal protection services in Ontario-Canada. The laws regarding personal protection have recently changed here. Each individual MUST be licensed. As a agency owner, there is more responsibility on us also to make sure the individuals that we hire/deploy are up to the task. |

Thanks for the information Executive Security.
I have a question though. You write "there is more responsibility on us also to make sure the individuals that we hire/deploy are up to the task". What I'd like to know is how this responsibility is enforced by the government. I mean, what happen if they find that security agents working somewhere are not well trained, or not trained at all. Can they revoke the employer's license? Has it happened yet? |

Hi Usagi,
Yes, they can revoke the agency license. As of August 2007, the news laws affecting us agency owners are MUCH MORE STRICT. The training portion of the ACT is still to be finalized. Should be coming out in a few months. The Ministry is coming up with a list of credited trainers who will be the only one's that can do training for Security Guards in Ontario. They new Act clearly states the responsibility is on the employeers to make sure they employees are properly trained to perform their required duties. It also contains a list of subjects that MUST be coverd during the training. For more information, you can google the "new security guard act" in ontario.
