I have a question, how do Canadians go threw such courses and get certified in Close Protection (if certified is the right word). I have noticed with dealing with American companies that we need to go threw a number of paperwork (takes up to 6 months for foreign nationals to be trained at their facilities...ie, Blackwater) ... This includes Our company, the training company and the department of homeland security. So my question is, can anyone explain how Canadians can go about this procedure, either in USA or Europe??? I realize this process is long and we would like to start it sooner then later... Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone...

Flies Nest, depending on where you are wishing to operate, you may, if you so wish, attend one of our sia CP courses, this would allow you to apply, as a Canadian, for an SIA CP license, this WOULD NOT give you a work permit, but would allow you for instance, to accompany a client into the UK and work.

The SIA, at present, is at least, a set, measured level of compatency, even in Europe, but with the EU being just like the US, a number of separate states, there is no FEDERAL laws covering CP at the moment.

I would say, it will come, eventually, until then, as the SIA is a UK Govenment entity, it could well be recognised worlwide, eventually.............

psdtraining; we have been told that canadians are under strict laws from the government to participate in such courses or even work in any industry allowing civilians contractors to carry arms??? Im just wondering if you have heard or trained any canadians that work in the Private Security sector, we are finding our government is keeping a watchful eye on us. What do you and any others on this forum suggest we do? We feel that our hands are being tide due to the country we live in... We are ready and willing to take on any training we need to get us ready for the industry...

Well, I've personally trained a number of Candadians over the past year for both High and Low risk, apart from the "ehhh" on the end of every sentence and a somewhat strange fetish for Maple Syrup, haven't had any problems.

I know a number of dual-citizens (Brit/Can) that are deployed, as contractors, in both Afghanistan and Iraq, have been for years.... I would suggest, if you keep your private business, private, where's your concerns?

Andy

If we are able to bring up to 10 people to train at your company what is the steps one would take??? for us to train in the states we need a TAA (Technical Assistance Agreement) this is between our company, the training company and the US state department, this process take about 6 months and can be very time consuming. We don't expect to be trained overnight or know everything we want to learn in a year (thats absurd) we just would like to start somewhat sooner then next march!

So if you could break that down for me, it would be greatly appreciated... Plus I don't say "ehh" and I hate maple syrup!!!

Here is a good link for anyone in Canada. I am sure many will have heard of them:

Cash Logistics, investigation, security consulting, screening :: Garda

My dealings with them have only been brief, but positive none the less.

I think u worry too much Flies Nest...I am a dual CDN / British living over here in the UK now, I took a level 3 CP course with the Edge...out of Colorado if I remember correctly...they came up to Toronto to do the course...had a long talk with them and was invited down to the states to do further training...they never said anything like that shit u were saying about permits or whatever....???..ur a private citizen u can do what u like...if u ask me, just come over to the UK and do the course with Psd training and then u will at least get ur feet "wet"and meet people and have more experience...there are always options .....PM me for more info if u like.
