a friend of mine loaned me a CP home study course he got years ago,its called medina home study courses written by mark yates,does anyone know these people,are they still in the business,i cant imagen you will learn much from a home study course,i have not had time to read it yet so i will give no comments on the contents of it

In fairness, the course is in a big binder and is full of usefull pages........................... for those times when the toilet roll has run out.

Mark Yates was a part of some "Jihad Challenge" wasn't he?

HAHA, well were do I start..
If there are some muppets in the industry, hes the muppet of the muppets!
After a basic course mr yates belived he was enough trained and had enough experience to train people himself, he went to Russia, Eastern countries and presented himself as a bodyguard instructor so he tricked and scammed his way around and manage to train both military and police in the eastern countries..
He made videos, and sold them to anyone interested in the industry.
He was kicked out of IBA where he took his basic course and since he also started to lie about himself and started LEBAI ( BAI = Bodyguard Association International)
He just put Law Enforcement before to make it more legal and selling..
When I started my career some 15 years back in security, I was in contact to this smouth talker...He did upset alot of people and was atleast threatened with court by the IBA since he stole there intire manual..

If you see anything that is good and relevant in his videos its stolen, from other organisations.
I even have one VHS video of him the KGB presidental bodyguard training video, where he is fully dressed in SAS clothes and shoot mentaly with a shootgun..

He was more or less chased out of UK and started something called Ground Zero in USA..
What he does today? I have no idea..but it has been very quit thank good for that.

Advice is if you see this man run..and keep running

It seems there is no end to this kind of scamming. I was working the door with someone who said he had done a home study course and was waiting for his S.I.A licence. Maybe he was boasting or maybe he thinks he's the next James Bond. Whilst books can be useful for reference, there is no substitute for experience. Good luck!!!

Surely you cant get a level 3 certificate this way? and the sia would not let you get a license this way?

my personal opinion would be,that home courses CAN and indeed DO teach you and give you some very usefull information...

But i really do doubt that there could be any course in Close Protection which would be delivered by distance (internet/postage/videos etc..)
I did actually found some courses online related to CP.. and most of them stated that they will award you some 'recognised' diplomas , cert's etc. that you will be first class operative etc.


But just think about it.. Think realisticly?
CP work isn't working in office or somewhere simmilar, you can take distance courses in lets say business...

just an idea... When there will be distance courses in Firearms?
