Very interesting.

As a certified and registered CP instructor with C+G and Edxcel(whoopeeeeeee!!!) i found that the training company that employed me simply sent my CV away for 'vetting' and it seemed to receive all the required 'ticks in the boxes', therefore authorising me to instruct on the sia CP course.

Is this the norm or am i just a special needs case? LOL

I believe the requirements are simply-
PTTLS- C&G7303 or similar
Delivering Conflict management- C&G 1886 or similar

and proven operational experience- this one isnt taught anywhere.

So anyone with real experience can transfer their subject matter knowledge gained through time served into a training qualification at their local college or
teacher tarining company for about £800 usually for the 2 required quals.

What you dont get from an 'instructor' course is the necessary time served to be credible.

However I am fully behind dedicated train the trainer courses for suitable people as there are some god awful trainers out there. And to be fair at least this course is subject specific which alot are not being aimed at the general market.

Exactly praetorian550, and this is what i find to be rong to deliver the courses under NOCN, skills for security, what ever sector you choose deliver s4s find that by attending a recognised course they see this to be enough experiance to gain your at numbers and to start delivering imidiately, but this is an on going debate.

Psd Trg is right with their comment that there is a alot more to delivering training than just 'doing the course', however, the sia do not stipulate any 'time served' on the job prior to teaching so in effect, it is possible attend a CP course one year and a teaching qual the next. This is the downfall of the entire licensing, NOS & APL process.

A 24ct cock up.

Rich H i totally respect your comments mate but i was under the impression that for a training centre to be accredited then there trainers need to be 'authorised' by the said training body.

In order to be 'authorised' the proposed trainer needs to have field expereince.

Hi CM,

Yes, you are indeed correct. The 'accrediting bodies' do need to 'authorise' aspiring trainers before they can attend a trainers qual course. However, these accrediting bodies are, lets be frank, desk wallers whose only experience in CP is reading it from a book and taking advice from the sia and so on. There are no criteria laid down that must be met by that individual before they can apply for such a trainers course such as;

1. Must have at least 10 years in a solid CP background
2. Must have held the position of TL for a minimum of 5 years etc etc

Their attendance is based on a decision by some guy who decides if the candidate has enough experience. The process is clustered just as the entire process is involved in licensing.
