ofthen books may be cause of failure on your course.. I would suggest:
1.Tell what course you will take 2.What help you may need 3.Pray (You know how to pray right) that someone will answer 4.Get in touch with those ho will answer and have passed course youre interested in... And.. Oh.. Good luck ![]() but i would suggest avoid books , unless they will be just something like , em reference? Dont count on them 100% |

Most contemporary training companies cover the basics in a very similar fashion, albeit with their own flair. I can't say the same for reference books however. Seems everyone who writes wants to put their own spin on things. Not necessarily wrong, but it may be radically different than what you will be learning in the classroom.
I recommend that you talk to the training staff and get their recommendations prior to spending your hard earned cash on one or more of the many books in circulation. I have my favorites, as do most others here, but if we don't know who's training you it doesn't help. What training outfit are you going to? |

Some good points on here and on a previous thread covering much the same subject. All I can say is good on you for trying to gain some information prior to your Course....but.....as a Trainer in this industry with a few, quite a few actually, years in the business. My advice, is to go onto the course with a completely open mind, preconceived ideas can get in the way of your learning process. My opinion for what it is worth. Take care and good luck on your course. Kenpsd. |

Hughie79,
The trouble with many of the books you can readily find is that they teach the very basics of CP. Now, this is fine for the novice, the aspiring student attendee and for this purpose the books are fine. The books have the information concerning the stipulated core competencies as the sia puts it. In their infinite wisdom on the subject matter, they have attempted to formalise theory, what is in effect a practical course, or should be. Many commercial CP training courses also fall in to the trap of only delivering instruction on the legal requirements for instructing the course. Anything extra does of course cost time and money, of which chews into the profit margin, which is after all, what they are about. So, after the licensing debacle, most training companies now only teach the basic legal requirements as opposed to practically demonstrating and teaching driving, medical, unarmed combat and fitness. The books currently out there also teach bad (wrong) drills concerning reaction to attack that would not (and do not) work. They are dangerous both to the Principal and the BG and should not be included in 'manual' or 'practical/ definitive guides' as they claim they are. Reading the books will only make a difference if you attend a course that is just as mediocre and basic, which to be perfectly honest, most, if not all are, in comparison to those in the police or military. If, however, you attend a course that is instructed by instructors with PROPER Close Protection EXPERIENCE at the very pinnacle of CP operations then the books will be an utter waste of time. These books are no substitute for proper CP Tactical Doctrine and advice on best practise in a realistic world. Rich H Last edited by Rich H; 15-08-2008 at 07:40 PM. |
