Just by way of introduction. I am Dave C, I was one of the founders of Exmed UK. There will no doubt be many here who trained with Exmed.
I am now freelance and available for consultations and am happy to field any questions from list members regarding all things medical. Please feel free to drop me an email or post. I am also seeking interesting projects to get stuck into. Regards Dave C |

Cheers Hippo,
Always happy to share what I know. Re: your green pussy spots......Id see a medic but in my humble opinion, I would be thinking gangrene.......just be warned it might well move to your dangly bits. A bloke in Vietnam in the 70's was shot in the arm and he died within 24 hours as the gangrene spread up his arm and into his torso......Ref WDMET Database (Casualty Care Research Centre, Washington DC). Good luck. |

Dave, I'm an EMT with the nhs. I've done loads beyond the standard nhstd qualification including 12-lead,lma and university pre-hospital education to cert ed level. I was interested in doing the rig medic course as well as remote medic. I've been told that rig medic is only open to nurse, para or military CMT1 or eqiv. Recently i took a senior H&S manager to hospital ?MI and took the time to pick his brains. (Long transfer) And he told me this was bull. Any advice or thoughts/suggestions?

Rockape 1.
This is a tough one to open up with. I would need to explore what you mean by EMT as no official course with this title exists within the NHS. The equivalent is Ambulance Technician. In the guidance notes for offshore medics there is little guidance and apart from nurses and ex-military medics getting a place on a Offshore Medic course is really at the descetion of the training provider. This concession is only realli open to Paramedics. That said Paramedics without experience as a military medic will have great diffculty. In truth there is no reason why a paramedic could not do the course but it is whether you could find work thereafter with a company. Most will not accept paramedics. This is due to the scope of practice for a paramedic compared to a military medic. You will appreciate the main burden of care is in the field of primary care. This is an area that is not part of paramedic/EMT practice. So far the legislation has not catered for ECP's. The other consideration is that if you are wanting to work offshore you will need the offshore survival ticket to either UK or Norwegian standards. There are many facets to this question and a number of issues.. Will be happy to address this further if you wish using other means. Let me know. Regards Dave C. |

I am an Offshore Medic and also a qualified Nurse. I do ad-hoc work in the North Sea, etc when between jobs in the CP world. It's like anything...you can't get a job without experience and you can't get experience without getting a job!! Also I am finding that a lot of cleints are now insisting that you have a nursing ticket as well as your HSE Offshore Medics Cert. It's a bit similiar I think to having to have your sia license to work on some contracts in Iraq. You don't need it but sometimes the client requests this as a minimum standard (i.e CRG FCO contract).
I would get in touch with Interdive at Plymouth. They may be willing to put you through the course. But as Dave says many people may not employ you when you get qualified. Best of luck. Andy |

Dave
Welcome....I have done about 4/5 Exmed courses and will be back in Nov for my refresher. Before you it was Scottie and the Jap Sniper. Exmed was a welcome change and good to be back in H. We did use Irvine Gibson before....then he went even madder. Might pick you brains some time. Russ |
