Hi all,
I'm jdo2222, I have served 12yrs in the infantry, mainly in fire support company in Guns & Atk Pl. Im at a cross roads and at the junction I've chosen to take civi street as my next career leaving as a fullscrew. I'm looking at UK CP in particular. I am a blank canvas, so to speak. I have 30 days resettlement entitelment and as of april 08 ill have 2000 pounds of ELC,s to play with. I'm looking for advice on which company and course to take to make me more employable. I only intend on working in the UK, understanding that my starting point may not be my ideal job 1st/2nd/3rd jobetc... I currently earn 1800 per month and if I had to start at 1000 per month I would. Can anybody advise me on the best route to take? Thanks in advance jdo2222 |

You have taken the first step, Greymans offer an 18 day cp course for £3000, I believe its second to none as i wrote it. I will now not be teaching on it but we have 2 ex Met Police SO19/CO19 and UK Prime Ministers CP team to teach on it aswell as others. The course is just for the UK/European Market and provides the best transition from the services to the civilian market. This has been recognised by the accreditation bodies including Bucks New University. Greymans is also an operational company and an approved manpower provider for a major Risk Management Company aswell as doing there own operations. Any further advice please do not hesitate to PM me.
Greymans is an excellent company and the best I have worked for in the commercial market so I recommend them highly. I am soon moving on to a more global role with a major company but I will still be in contact with Greymans regulary. Regards Nick Last edited by co19; 13-01-2008 at 01:36 AM. |

co19,
You appear to be a mainstay of informed info here at CP world and the voice of clear advice at that. I appreciate your swift reply. So you are or were employed by Greymans? Forgive me for being rude but why did you leave the Met? Also not sure how to get onto Pm? jdo2222 |

I left the Met because I was frustrated being a policeman, I got invited to go to Iraq and I earn't alot more money for the next 3 years. You would not get me back in the police or back in Iraq though, the commercial sector is where its at for me. I was employed by Greymans, I am on a private CP job in London at the mo till early February, then I move onto my new post the weekend after I finish this. I am fortunate I have made a good living and will make a better living, but be warned its not the case for everyone, whatever anyone says 4 in 10 people who do a cp course will not make it in the industry or leave it out of exasperation, 2 will manage to scape a living but the other 4 will succeed! I have trained almost 200 people in the last year and this is the general feedback i get back from them. I am still in contact with 40 or so of them.

You are wise to ask advice first and then not fall into the trap of going with the most famous. I did my course with Phoenix and although the content was sufficient and delivered well, the class was too big and some of civilian students did not understand the military jargon. You will find that your ELC and resettlement grant will cover the cost of your resettlement but you must use companies that are on the approved careeer transition list that is held in the AEC's. Phoenix, task and some other pikey ones are on it but I am not sure if Greymans are??, well they ought to be. Drop me a line if I can be any further help to you. |

Hello jdo2222
Welcome to the forum. It would be great if you could get hold of the "approved careeer transition list that is held in the AEC's" list and post it on here so we know who can be used for ressettlement.

CTP are not allowing any other companies to join, as there are sufficient cp companies represented, you do not have to use ctp companies on the list but do need to request to do the course with a company that is on the list. Pheonix are on the list and do not even do cp courses. Saying about civilians not understanding the jargon on a cp course, they will understand the terms on a Greymans cp course as we demilitarise the course to assist with the transition from the military to civvy street. A civilian has as good a chance and has even done better than alot of ex military personel on the courses I have been a part of.

Furthermore companies are only allowed on the list if they can provide work for ex students.
