Sometimes a little time and distance makes things better, in my case it was 12,000 miles and about 9 years but after some convincing from a dear friend I relented and turned up one day. I wasn't sure if the shock would kill her or not or get such a mouthful which she was prone to do ( possibly a Tourettes sufferer!!!).

Still it went far better than expected and that time and distance mellowed her. now I speak to her often and just got a postcard from her the other day as she still has not got her head around emails even after owning a laptop for two years! It can change and does with time.

I have a very wise person who posted in this thread to thank even if she doesn't always heed her own advice :P

My mother still insists on the three ring "im home safe code". despite the fact that i have done three tours of NI, two of bosnia, two gulf wars and a tour of iraq with combined 13 years regular service.

I'll do a swap with you......a few days of my mother, and you will be begging on hands and knees to swap her back.....except I probably won't.

I've tried selling mine on e-bay and going the other side of the world, but alas the buyer sends her back by fed-expresss with the bounty hunters in tow to make sure they get their money back.

I know when she pops her cloggs, she'll haunt everyone and exorcism, even with the Pope, and all other religious leaders present wouldn't work.

So if you game for a swap, I meet you at the Little Chef Services on the M1 and you'll have a new mother....

Ps it's my birthday soon, so if you Mum wants to bring me a present a nice bunch of flowers will be just fine.

but come on what the friggin hell am i going to do with that - i dont wear waistcoats and its going to get put on a shelf and forgotten about
