brilliant post mate. Like i said in a thread that was posted a while back. the public dont realise the true extent of the work that the forces are doing overeas, its not just a big shoot 'em' up. its everything from rebuilding houses to saving little girls like this one. i just hope the public realise just how easy they have it compared to the poor souls in war zones across the world.
Cheers Haz |

Totaly agree, as more people forward this link as more people see the opposite site of the work in regions like iraq. Most times you only read negative news about the job down there.

Couldnt agree more Dirk,
It is high time the public were informed of the work that PSCs actually do in Iraq and other regions and instead of being blinkered by the media regarding the unfortunate BW and similar incidents, are actually given an account of the many other tasks that daily facilitate humanitarian aid, building and rebuilding programs, that without PSCs could not continue. Our industry has been demonised because of a few bad press incidents , the Aegis video a few years back , BW on one or two occasions and a few prehaps unlawful actions of a small amount of people.... that 'evidence' can be counted on one hand and pales in comparison to the thousands of Psd tasks on the road per day. Good to see some positive news for a change. |

One problem is that bad stories/ incidents brings the newspapers and tv stations more money. As long people buying this kind of stories it won´t change. At least we can bring our contribution and try to change minds or sentences :-)

Sadly as long as joe public still hold the opinion that many of them do that it was an unjust war and continue to see the dead return from the middle east then nothing will change. The news and papers do huge stories about those killed, and it is sad and it isn't nice, but at the minute that is what the public do see. And then they hear about companies like BW (I'm not adding my personal opinion here as it is just that personal), and what they may or may not have done, and out come the newshounds sniffing for a great dtory to bring down every other private security company within Iraq and Afghanistan. And then they start banding about the whole 'mercenary' name, when they actually have no idea that the work is in many instances not a free for all.
But then again when half the worl still insists upon calling it the 'war' in Iraq then how much hope is there really. It ceased being a war ages ago, and when even newsreaders and papers continue to call it that it will forever be that. Possibly by the very nature that as an industry sometimes we are rather secretive, and maybe the general man in the street isnt fully aware of what REALLY happens out there, only what the media feed to him, maybe by that gesture alone we become part of the problem ourselves. It is always good to hear something positive and often one positive thing can actually change someones opinion. |
