Maybe his secret CIA job was wrapping the tinsel round the vehicle Codans with the teddies on top? Always wondered who did that LOL. My favourite one was to play Xmas carols through the vehicle loud speaker driving through sh*tville telling the lovely insurgents that it was Jesus the Jew's birthday...they loved every minute of it.....so, he can't claim that one LOL....Or has he?
Pull up a sandbag, swing that lamp, I feel a 'war story' coming on! Get me a ghost writer, I want to do a book!! Xmas 2004, just after the suicide bomber walked into the DFAC at Marez, the 'septics' shut the stable door by sectioning off the DFAC at Fr***** and searching the PMCs going in, even though they were (very) heavily armed and wearing body armour..not armor...!! Taking bread to feed the late but unlamented Uday's fish, now there is a subject for a book, "Fish Feeding in a Conflict Zone" another Movie, 'A Fish called Uday', lead to be played by Kevin Bacon that would really impress the locals. Backing tracks by the 'teetotal' whisky hating, Fijian Choir

Although I am not going to defend this Bullsh*ter, Mercer was attached to the SBS in 94-6 as a Rib coxswain, he did complete specialist training doing the standard parachute course, square steerable para course, ships diver course, Larv5 dive conversion, basic SF CQB course and a few anti drug operations with the SBS as part of the Rib team. After doing all this and being a fairly competent marine, he disgraced the SBS, the Rib team and the Royal Marines by getting caught smugglings drugs into the Uk by boat with several others. After the failed customs court case, he was kicked out of the marines and decided to write his first book. This upset quite a few people as the book was just fantasy and an attempt to make lots of money on the good name of the SBS and the Royal Marines. The book was slated in most book reviews and went out of print a few years ago.

I personally worked with Mercer over the years and I would not be allowed to say what I truly think of him on this forum but just quote the facts known, so I will leave it to you to decide.

You're all just jealous you didnt think of it........ shit I'm jealous I didn't do it!

Saying that shakey......... surely you could scribe a best seller, think I'll write one too and just cut n paste the entire contents of this forum calling it "Close Protection - Where ego's dare" hang on, I already did an article called that........... bstard!

Andy
LOL You're absolutely right. Now let me think.......Need a title for the book......something along the lines of:

"The hills are alive with the sound of Mortars"

"4 weddings and an insurgent"

"It hurts, an insurgents tale"

"Iraqi Potter, The Goblet of Fire"

"Famous 5 go to war"

"The Towering Insurgent Inferno"

"Iraqiana jones and the Vehicle of Boom"

and my favourite so far.....

"Lonely Planet Guide: A tour of Iraq Chinese restuarants"

What do you think?

F. me, yes, I remember, we dropped off from Fr***** to M**, were going to stop at their DFAC, decided to hit the road instead... try to get back and Endex for the day.....30 mins later DFAC suicide bomber...was it 38 dead Marines and a few contractors? 150 odd injured? Searching PMC's going in with our Longs, multiple mags, shorts, frags etc. Funny.

"What are you searchin for kid?"

"I'm checking ya' all for anything that may compromise security in the DFAC, orders ya see Sir"

"OK Kid, what about this long metal thingy I'm holding, the 14 mags and comms kit, Short with 3 short mags, and round cyclinder shaped things, oh, and the large vest thingy I'm wearing? Am I ok to go in with all this?"

"Errr...yes Sir, that stuff's OK, Just make sure ya keep the mags off please"

"Emmm OK, I promise not to load up and have "a go" whilst I'm eating"

"OK sir, youre free to go in and eat, have a nice day ya all"

Excellent drills. And they wondered why their DFAC got taken out?

"A Fish called Uday" hahahahahaha!
