I can not believe this guy!

Well i am sure there are a few guys on this website that have some views on this mega walt now claiming he is working for the CIA. Personally having met the guy i think he is a king bullsh**ter .

His book Synopsis
Northern Iraq, 2004 – a lawless region of rock, sand, scrub and warring factions, so dangerous the regular coalition armies were reluctant to put their soldiers in harm’s way up there. Enter the ‘civilian contractors’: private armies in all but name, with state of the art funding, equipment and training, packing immense firepower and staffed by veterans of the world’s elite forces. Working in small groups alongside the US Army, men from all corners of the globe volunteered to risk their lives day after day fighting someone else’s war – and all for a few bucks and a suntan…

One of these mercenaries was Peter Mercer. An ex-Royal Marine and former member of the navy’s elite SBS, Peter’s been to some pretty hot places before but even he didn’t know what to expect. A warm welcome was extended when within minutes of his arrival into northern Iraq he came under intense mortar and small-arms fire. But that was just the start of 9 months of high-tempo missions putting him literally right on the firing line. Scouting for roadside bombs; safeguarding the Iraqi elections; taking down hit-and-run insurgent forces – the frenetic life of the mercenary changed from one week to the next, but the constants remained: dirt, danger, excitement, and the ever-present gallows humour in the face of huge casualty rates.

But the story does not end with tales of intense firefights and silent night patrols. It goes much deeper. Sent on suicidal runs designed to draw out the enemy insurgents, Peter’s team were going into places even the US Army didn’t care to send its troops. They were expendable men, charged with making the hard yards on behalf of the most sophisticated army in the world. And when the orders started coming right from the top – from the CIA itself – things really started to heat up…

Sprinkling his story with incredibly candid anecdotes encompassing the adrenaline of battle, and reflecting on the humour and absurdity of life on the frontline, Peter Mercer takes us on an unforgettable journey through the dangerous backstreets of 21st-century Iraq, and reveals that the realities of the ongoing War on Terror are not all that they seem.

About the Author
Peter Mercer spent eight years in the Royal Marines and SBS before entering the deadly killing-grounds of Northern Iraq while working as a hired gun for a private security contractor. This is his second book.

First book -

isstraining will become famous soon enough
I took Peter Mercer through RM Commando training in 88/89, though not my fault he passed...

I put his first book down a quarter of the way through it as it was full of crap. If it wasn't for my good nature would I have demanded a full refund from the bookstore.

He was not badged SBS but a landing craft coxswain who 'delivered' SBS and M Sqn ranks onto ships / rigs etc.. The guys do a real good job in very tasking conditions but most are modest and wind their necks in who do not go about saying they are SBS....

Mercer got tied up in drug trafficking on the high seas (allegedly) and walked free after court.

As Forest Gump said, '..that's all I've got to say about that...'

Peter

I worked with Mercer for a few years in the marines, he had everything and lost it all for being a tosser. What he did was totally a misuse of trust and respect, he adds insult by bringing the SBS and marines into his stupid world.

I was all over this area the same year....don't remember his name cropping up anywhere....

Absolute boll*cks, he wasn't on our teams......we don't remember communicating with the CIA.....

"Sent on suicidal runs designed to draw out the enemy insurgents.."
You mean "Take the team via Tel A Far, dig in at **** **** **** ****, Proceed to ***** *****, **** **** on Syrian border, observe and report?, quick ambush on the way back....vehicles destroyed. Following day, proceed to **** ****, **** ****, complex ambush, 30 vs 6, vehicles destroyed, multiple RPGs, SAF, Iraqi Check point over-run by insurgents...intense fire fight, enemy neutralised, brown pants all round?"

Sounds like this Walt has "borrowed" a couple of events my old team mates and myself went through. I can't believe he's actually done this when he wasn't even there and insulted those of us who were committed to the task in hand, put our lives on the line, got the job done, got paid, went home, kept quiet. If I, or the rest of my old team mates catch this first class Walt Mitty we'll hang him out to dry. We don't come on here to brag, never mind write a friggin book, BUT WORSE THAN THAT HE HAS WRITTEN A BOOK ABOUT EVENTS HE WASNT EVEN INVOLVED IN therefore rubbing our faces in the brown stuff..............I'm off for a brew before the red mist takes over and I write more than I should....suffice to say I'm slightly simmering.....

Funny that, I was up there at exactly that same time, I know some of the guys who were carrying out the types of task he describes in his book, I do not remember him being a part of that 'Team'. There were only a few of us, non 'septics' at FOB Fr***** at the time, so unless he was disgused as a Ghurka or a Fijian I really do think I would have recognised him from the photo on the book. But hey, if it is OK enough for that brilliant tactician 'Andy Mcab' to make millions from some one else writing the drivel spouted by him, why should Mr Mercer not do the same, give him a break, any 2 limbs would be fine by me. Who knows, some one like Shakes could do a Mike Asher and make a few bob roaming around Tal al Far ( Sh*thole) dressed like an insurgent meeting other insurgents, drink chai and talk about the 'good old days' shooting and blowing the sh*t out of the infidels. I am only jealous that I did not have as much action as Mr Mercer, I may have been tempted to write a book as well. ' The Life and Times of a boring old Bas*ard' Movie rights, TV Series, me to be played by Brad Pitt with a dodgy 'Pikey' accent...sure thing for an oscar!!

"Disgused as a Ghurka or Fijian" LOL. Or maybe Serbian? G***** **** were pulled out late 2004/Jan 05?....Don't remember seeing his face around their pad at FOB Fr***** before they left our 2 lots to it.....So...we can confirm he wasn't there then.....Shame, he might have made a good singer in the Fijian choir at Xmas with a couple of bricks attached to his nuts with cheese wire. Maybe his secret CIA job was wrapping the tinsel round the vehicle Codans with the teddies on top? Always wondered who did that LOL. My favourite one was to play Xmas carols through the vehicle loud speaker driving through sh*tville telling the lovely insurgents that it was Jesus the Jew's birthday...they loved every minute of it.....so, he can't claim that one LOL....Or has he?

its all to common knowledge that the people who have to much to say are usually the ones who have made it all up, like mr mitty, i agree and its a shame some people have to write about things that others have experienced and been through.

I see no problem, as long as the book is "fictional" or even "based on real life" rather than a "non fictional" recollection of the facts.

You're all just jealous you didnt think of it........ shit I'm jealous I didn't do it!

Saying that shakey......... surely you could scribe a best seller, think I'll write one too and just cut n paste the entire contents of this forum calling it "Close Protection - Where ego's dare" hang on, I already did an article called that........... bstard!
