Recently, we were involved in assisting the CP team of a wealthy american visiting Argentina on a shooting trip. We did the advance for the advance team (!), and smoothed the airport security for the arrival/departure of the Vip group and then slotted in with rest of the CP team. High profile visitor on a low-profile trip.
All CPO's were ex-USASF, and some had also worked Psd in Iraq. Experienced operators you could say. All with the latest gadgets, even brought their own shotguns. What arrived was far from expected. Morale was down. Poor guys. TL's were leaving every 6 months due to personality clashes with the Corporate security manager, the Rst manager, SAP manager, the Protection manager etc. The company owner knew none of this of course... On asking one of them what the job was like, his reply was; They never know when their next leave is going to be as it keeps getting changed. The rotation between RST and SAP was not always fairly split. The pay was not that good. They worked 12 hr shifts usually around 5days on 2 off. There was gym access and some good benefits/allowances. But was he happy? No... and here's the thing that was interesting: The owners' wife was 20yrs younger than the rich owner and liked to keep fit. She employed a personal trainer. He was given his own house on the family land. He had full access to it including the horses, hunting and fishing. Everywhere that this woman travelled, he went with her. He ate well and had many luxuries. What was his work roster? 2hrs every day or every other day with this lady. The rest of the time he was free. His salary was double that of the CPO's. So, are you sure you want to be a CPO? Last edited by ASE; 06-09-2008 at 06:23 PM. Reason: spelin |

Could always be a professional footballer. 1,000,000's a year for a few hours of 'hard' training a week (have you ever seen a professional footballer being sick over himself while sprinting? No, me neither) then a few more hours pampering, pedicures and manicures and all that BS; for the world changing skill of being able to kick a ball about.
No, I don't want to be a CPO; but I don't want to be a soft poof either. |

Cheers guys,
The two points to this tale for me are: 1. Working full time for a wealthy family is my idea of perpetual hell 2. If you want to work full time for a wealthy family, in this case you are better off as a P/Trainer. Better still, make a few billion squid and see CP from the other side! (now wheres my lotto ticket?) |
