Hi AJC,
dont know if this will involve you but you could mention the major problems facing people when applying for the SIA license - I have problems getting through everytime and this is now my fith attempt since October and I still have not had the appication form - everytime I speak to them an operator just says 'sorry about that we will send another' - and then nothing arrives!

Thanks for your offer to try and improve the industry. My only suggestion is to tighten up on experience and qualifications required to teach and the checking of the evidence of prior learning, qualifiaction and relevant experince. The basic CP course to get "badged" I think is a good starting point and then the rest comes with experience or attending developmental courses.
Looking forward to other members views.

Phone contact is always a problem.
Use the link below to apply for an application pack. Hopefully leaving a data trail they won't 'forget' to send one.
Request an Application Pack - Security Industry Authority
good luck.

I would recommend closer scrutiny of training companies as even with the latest list from the SIA it still includes a company that not only is no longer training but has had its company listing removed from companies house. I think you will find many posts on here with the same question regarding the quality of training courses and listing companies without even a cursory check makes it harder for good quality training outfits as then all are looked at with suspicion. Also if a member of the public can find that kind of information out it does make the SIA look less worth while as a regulating body if they miss even the basic in checking of details. The list of approved trainers should be a list of excellence not just a list of anyone that has managed to be accredited which from my experience if poles apart.

If there was more vigilance in this area then training companies that can't or won't deliver adequate and quality training would not be able to operate which can only be a good thing for both students and quality training companies alike. It would also raise the respect of the SIA within the industry and the profession as a whole after all a standard is only as good as its enforcement.
