Hi all, First post on here ! so here goes !

Having submitted over 300 + application forms for SG, DS,CCTV to the sia, the advice I would give to people that are doing a course that they know the dates of and that many people are booked on the course confirmed. "so there is no chance the course will be cancelled" I would send the of the form as soon as I get it, you only need to put the month and year you did the course and the awarding body, along with your personal details and ID requested. If you are joining a Company they will have the forms all ready, so this will only be for those of you doing it independantly.

By the time the sia get it scanned on the system, check your ID then look to check your qualification, by this time you would have sat the exam the results posted, so the SIA can cross check this with the awarding bodies, the fastest awarding body I have seen so far for results is BIIAB, although only needing to get 28 out of 40 questions right !is a walk in the park for many without the training.

Don't think that by doing this you will get your Licence any quicker ! but then again you might ! the one thing I know with the SIA they are not very consistant they never do two things the same, I had 1 chaps go through in 4 weeks ! start to badge in his hand, just had another apply for his badge in nov 07 just got his badge last week !

Any way that's my bit for now

Hi guys

My names Kamran. I did my course and the qualification provider was ASET. I filled the application before hand but got delayed sending it. I recieved my Certificates in 2 weeks. sia recieved my application on the 9th of May. I checked the status online and all my checks are done except 2. Now I recieved the post a week ago saying we can't track your qualification on our database and if you think you have the required qualification contact your qulification provider to sort it out. So i had to fone ASET and tell them. It's been from last Friday I am contacting them and they say the same thing that we are in process of doing it and as soon as we are done we will fone you. The guy who answers the fone is getting a bit irritated with me but SIA only gave me 3 weeks to sort it out. So I foned SIA and explained them the situation and they are ok with it and told me that as soon as you sort it out with ASET let us know and expect your licence in 2 weeks from then. I realy can't wait for ASET to sort it out because I need a job and for that I need a licence, I hope it gets sorted quickly.

About the application I foned SIA to order a pack but never recieved anything for about 3 weeks (that was the first time I foned them), So I foned them and they said We have dispatched it long back if you haven't recieved it we will send you it again and finally after 2nd fone call I got the pack in a week.

So I have been waiting about nearly 2 months now for the licence, so the person who said about 10 weeks they are taking to process the application is bang on target. I hope I get it soon.

Best of luck guys with your courses and applications and one's who have it best of luck with your jobs.

KAMRAN

Since we're talking about the sia thought you all might like to hear some relevant information about Northern Ireland and Licencing and regulation. As far as I know the SIA govern security practices, regulating the security sector in England Scotland and Wales but not Northern Ireland, why ? I hear you say. Well in Northern Ireland we had the peace process founded on the principles of the Good Friday Aggreement, and what a little error in relation to security matters that has turned out to be. Under the Good Friday Aggreement you cannot discriminate against anybody because of their past either criminal activities or political murder, *censored**censored**censored**censored* pillage or whatever you would like to call it. Technically you could have someone who has murdered, robbed banks, tortured, and I do mean mass murder!!!! standing doing Door Supervision work, cash in transit, and bodyguarding, which makes it ironic if he is a convicted murderer, but the cherry on the cake is if an employer does discriminate against him the employer is liable in a court of law to pay compension to the said criminal for discriminating against him. So for the forseeable future I cant see the SIA venturing into Northern Ireland which is a pity because now a huge percentage of the security companies in the country are present or past paramilitaries extorting money in another way. hope this article wasnt too long winded or political.
