If you are looking to become a door supervisor you can use Google or if you want ask some of the forum members if they can recommend an sia door supervisors training course in your area. It is 30 hours long/4 days training with 2 x 1 hour exams at the end of it.
If you are about to undertake a SIA Door Supervisor Course I would also suggest that if you are deffinately going to undertake training with a Training Provider in your area you will have two wait until the next available training calander date for that training company which will add to the time it takes to get your License. Dont wait until then to fill in your application. Call the SIA on 0844 892 1025 (lines open 8am until 8pm Mon-Fri) or complete the online application request form Request an Application Pack - Security Industry Authority. Complete the form in BOLD with a Black pen, (sounds stupid, but people have had their application forms returned for not doing this). You no longer need to write the certificate number in Section B on the new application. In section B where it says awarding body, write the relevant awarding body such as NOCN, BII or City & Guilds etc (if you are unsure then your training provider will tell you this, as some training companies deliver NOCN, City & Guilds, and BII courses). Talk to your trainer, but it is safe to say that you can send of your application 2 to 3 days days after completing your course, as the awarding body collects all your details and will pass these onto the SIA. Your trainer will tell you if you have passed or failed, as we trainers can look at your marks and give you an (un-official) heads up wheter or not it is a pass or fail. |

Don't expect to get your license fast though.. The sia are currently taking approx 10 weeks or longer to process applications.

This is the link to the sia web page to request an application. Don't even think of phoning.

Make sure you fill out the form before you do the course (apart from the pass certificate details, lol) and then you can get the course tutor to sign it and the photo. Many a time I've heard of a form sent back saying it has been signed by an incorrect person, only for them to realise that it was ok after all. This can save several weeks (at the moment it is a 3 month wait!), for the form to be turned around again.
Having the tutor sign the form covers your back (as they have to have been cleared to teach the course in the first place), and you are also sure that you have filled out everything correctly. Hope this helps |

I've personally been waiting over 8 weeks for an APPLICATION FORM. I tried twice via online, called 3 times and still no application for. Woman I spoke to informed me that they had 1,000's just lying around... She also said that there is some issue with the distribution centre. This practice to me is so unreal. It is an additional tax on jobs, but what I find disturbing is the stories of people making applications and being refused, knowing they are "fit to work" and made 3 attempts. £245 x 3, you know they don't do refunds. Mix this with the waiting times and in a short space of time sia has over taken the likes of British Rail on poor performance.
We now called them "See ya" not sia, because after they take your money this is what they do. Best of luck to all that are fit for the role. |

Hey guys, i have recently completed my Level 2 Door Supervision course with a company called Showsec (im a university student, im going to be working at my University Union, so they paid for my training which was a bonus). I requested an application form a week ago and have been informed that it has arrived at my address (as i am away).
Does anyone know roughly how long the sia are taking to process the applications iv been told that someone got theirs in only 6 weeks, my checks should be ok as i have a firearms license so i am already checked with the Police. Also iv been told my certificates will take 2 weeks to come through, it was mentioned above that you can send the application form off without the certificates, any advice on that part. Much appreciated for any help you can provide, Jason. |

You can apply without actually having your certificates but you need the reference number off them as this needs to go on the form. Showsec should be able to give you this.
Your checks will take the same length of time as anyone else regardless of what checks anyone might have done before, if you lived abroad they take longer, if there's anything on your record such as a 10 year old caution, it will take longer. Was the person who got one in 6 weeks a recent applicant. At the moment they are taking a few months, some people have been waiting since November. |
