Worked in security in Dublin for 2 years not really surprised that this happened as violent crime is quite high in certain parts of Dublin mostly due to drugs gangs ,luckily they seem to spend most of their time shooting each other.Shame though dublin is such a great place to live and has great night life. Like anywhere just be careful where you go ,thoughts go out to doorman and family.

Hi All,
I worked the door in the Red Cow for nearly 3 years, I was run over by a jeep last year when a bunch of numptys we refused kicked off, one of them drove his jeep through the doors and put 3 of us in Hospital. This was the second time a vehicle had been driven through the doors and the third time that someone had tried to run us down and we had said it was only a matter of time before a member of security was shot. We had approached the management of the venue about bollards and re-designing the layout of the door, but as you can imagine we were barely listened to, and why should they? It's not like they were going to spend money on our saftey now was it? The manager wanted to re-open what was left of the doors 15 mins after the jeep hit us. The attitude towards the doorstaff was that if any of us got hurt was "Just open another box of Bouncers" The place went down hill because we were being put under pressure to get the numbers up and stop the coke (which is everywhere in Dublin), we were refusing people but then getting complaints from management that we were to strict. Cue open doors to every scrote in Christendom, all the ones that were barred were back with quite predictable results. The Police ended up having to storm the dancefloor to quell a mini riot that kicked off and the end result is we lost the contract. Point being, mangement need to do their jobs and let us do ours, when there's to much interference, things will go awry and it's the doorstaff that get hurt and it's the doorstaff that get the blame. Rant over. |

I think you have a massive point there about the management, iv not worked yet, only just passed my training. But from an newbies point of view, the management has a key role. And its the door supervisors responsibility to make sure everyone is safe, so its not fair that the management dont listen, the door staff should have more authority when it comes to the safety of the venue.
Its a shame about the shooting, running over and mini riots. I have family who live over in Dublin, and apart from the expensiveness of the Place it seems a really really nice city. |

My feeling on it is, I don't go telling the management how to do their job, so why tell me how to do mine? I've been doing this a long time, longer than some of the mangers have been doing their jobs in a lot of cases.
What really gets me is when they question why you stopped somebody and it's obvious that the person you stopped is to Drunk/Borderline drunk/Coked up/Scruffy/complete scrote, it's ok for them to question/overrule your decsion because it's not them that have to do the fighting when it goes tits up. |
