ok, Security is something that I've always wanted to do and I do have a lil experience in it, I was a Search Steward at Blackburn Rovers for a season and I have covered a few shifts for a security guard at a previous job a few times(who was a good teacher really, but not a great guy tbh)

Now the problem is, I dont actually know where to stat, I've been through the SIA site very throughly and cant find anything about 1st time starting, but tbh I'm not sure what I'm looking for on there. I've been through a few threads on here and they all seem to say to go for a DS lisence, because you can then do security guarding and door supervision both of which I'd love to do.

So can anyone guide me on where to go etc, I live in Blackburn, England btw if that helps

Thanks in advance

I have interest in either role tbh, a Security guard in say a shop or mall would interest me more but I have worked nights before and have dealt with drunks an that in previous jobs, so either would be fine

Alright mate, 1st thing is that you have to get the sia badge...you do that by going on a ds course which is about 3-4days long. Its better to do the ds course as it covers quite a lot more than a static guard course. The course costs anything from 150-200...As long as you can breath and speak basic English then you'll breeze through it. Once you get your reg number then you can apply to the sia. Once you get that, which should take no longer than 8weeks then there is so much work out there...loads of different websites. Gumtree's always got ds and sec guard vacancies...good luck and if you need to know anything else then just ask.

Have a look on google. People are doing the courses everywhere, BUT!!! make sure you check their company name on the sia website. They have to be on the sia providers list to be approved.

You might have to be prepared to travel to get your course done. I went to Dorset for my training, as there wasn't any available dates in the area for me where I live. Depends how much you want that licence lol
Another tip is apply for your application form now, and with a bit of luck it might come back by the time you have finished your course.

Costs depend, you might be able to get on a scheme with local authority, depending on age, so they maight part fund it. Anything from £120 - £250 + depends again which training provider you choose, and your personal cirrcumstances.
