I see where you're coming from and agree completely. I had tried to address this with the PSA (even worse than the SIA) and they just did not comprehend what I was trying to say. Some people are just impossible to vet, for example, I had to vet a guy from the UK who had moved to Dublin. This guy had served 10 years in the forces and had a couple of jobs since in the UK that were security related. Now imagine me with my strong Dublin accent ringing up said jobs in the UK trying to get info on this guy. I was told, in no uncertain terms to f**k off and I can't blame them for doing so and in their position I would have done the same. I agree that vetting must be done but it has to be workable and realistic, I would still rely on word of mouth a lot of the time. PSA/SIA are just a bunch of numptys. They're civil servants with no experience within the fields they try to police and regulate. Heno |

Vetting only requires a check on your previous 5 years of Employment. Employers then have 16 weeks to screen you which will go back 10 years, hence why most have a probation period.
Usually if you have gaps in your records either through companies that don't exist anymore or the contact that has moved on they will use either of the 2 (minimum) personal referees that you stated on your application to confirm dates. As a Sub Contractor to any company it is the norm that they will only confirm dates that you worked for them. If they do decide to give you a bad reference then you have the right to appeal. Remember that you do have the right to see any reference that has been written about you. Advice: Any company that you work for, whether it be full time or indeed as a Sub Contractor get a reference from them yourself. That way if they decide to write anything bad against you and they have written something different to you personally then you have a case. Also remember that clients can write references too, and this can be attached to the employers reference. |
