Hi Guys......

There is a survey for door supervisors going on to collate the number of assaults and violent incidents against our profession. Please read below then take the survey.

We all need to complete this new research which could reveal for the first time the true level of workplace violence experienced by British door supervisors – and if you work in the industry, you can play a part in it.

Research confirms what most people who frequent pubs and clubs at night will already know, and that is the potential for violence is never far away. Door supervisors keep the public safe by dealing with this threat and are therefore often the recipient of violent behaviour and assaults. But ‘how much’ is a question that has never been asked.

Door supervisors are a trained, qualified and licensed professional group, so it is appropriate to determine if they experience a level of violence in their workplace that would be unacceptable in any other profession.

Data gathered for the British Crime Survey has shown that those employed in the protective services, such as the police and prison service, experience the highest amount of violence at work. However, this may be misleading as people working in those employments are more likely to report violent incidents than door supervisors for a number of reasons. Additionally, previous research has grouped door supervisors in with parking attendants and school crossing wardens. The result is that the true level of violence against door staff has not been revealed.

Andrew Perkins is conducting research with Leicester University that will recognise ‘door supervisor’ as a professional occupational category and obtain data from door staff in an attempt to establish how much violence they experience. To ensure the research findings are valid and can relate to the experiences of all door staff, a high response rate is required. However, Andrew recognises this won’t be easy, “Door supervisors are usually understandably reluctant to talk to anyone outside their circle as they often fear any ‘unwanted attention’ this might bring”. Consequently, an on-line questionnaire has been made that is not only quick but can also guarantee anonymity. It takes approximately 3 minutes to compile.

If you are a door supervisor and would like your voice to be heard, you can complete the anonymous on-line questionnaire by clicking www.doorsurvey.info
The closing date for completed questionnaires is the 2nd July 2008. I have emailed the survey's author to extend the deadline for at least a month to get as many contributors as possible. If you would like further information or would like to be sent a word document copy of the questionnaire, please email: ajp59@leicester.ac.uk.

Many thanks.

Steven

Its about time someone did a survey as your post says Steven, we get lumped with other professions and therefore the data is currupt and not true for our industry. Many thanks for posting this. I did the survey and it was fairly simple, so come on everybody and take the survey and hopefully we will see true data results for our industry...
