I just wanted to stop by and tell you about the Britains Hardest doorman competition. 16 doorman fighting for the tilte and 10 grand cash.

It's all happening on Sunday 28th September in Manchester, tickets are selling fast.

If you think you're hard and should have been in it you're too late but we're taking names for next year.

Bob

Do you have to have a door supervisors licence to apply..... Just thinking the sia may come and shut you down for using unlicenced fighters? :-)

Must say, can't see how this is going to enhance an already 'crippled' are of the industry that has tried so hard to shake the mentality that this type of event promotes... just my opinion.

My view is that we should have more Competitions like this.....the most sincere Politician, the most honest Politician, the most efficient Govt Department ( sia need not apply), the soberest Scotsman, the most intelligent Irishman, the most well informed US President......and any more that you can think of.....Oh, not to mention the quietest woman!!!....the most unaggressive Rottwieller.....I am going to stop now and go and take my medication.

This has got to be amongst the dumbest idea I have heard since the concepts behind inception of the SIA.

I totally agree with van. This is just going to wreck and already ruined image of our profession. (Yes I did mean profession as with training, examination and licensing that is what we are supposed to be.)

The idea that to be a door supervisor you have to be "hard" is nonsense. Yes, it does help when things get physical but it invariably just makes things worse. The great wall of muscle and bone blocking a door can be a challenge for many drunken idiots.

I have worked with quite a few of the new breed of door supervisors who aren't n-th Dan a martial art, boxers or thugs. The use their brains, body language, and voices to excellent effect where force and aggression would end in the police cells, hospital or worse.

I just hope that the press do not get hold of this as they will have a field day with it. I can already see how this will be presented. Words such as thugs, mindless violence, rioting, serious injuries, and arrests will be used to paint a picture that whether or not accurate will do more damage than the event is worth and will start the knee of the government jerking.

I have been around long enough and worked in enough areas to have nothing but foreboding about this. As an ex-broadcast journalist, medic, security professional, and defence instructor it just leaves me cold that this is happening and that the only people that will benefit from this will be the promoters.

I cannot see that the "winner" will get anything other than a dubious honor and some cash. Who ever it is had better make the £10k last as involvement will almost certainly ruin their prospects of employment. Not only will the spectators be watching but so will the SIA, poliice, and press.

That has to be simply the most braindead idea i have seen for a long time.... why not go the whole hog and have one for Britain's most bent copper..... Britain's most trigger happy private security contractor.

I was under the impression that this kind of thing had gone out with the arc and that most clubs and bar establishments were looking for more professional and well trained door staff. As has already been noted all this does is damage an industry that has fought long and hard to drag itself out of the gutter of violence and bad publicity and press. That and quite frankly it's childish aswell. Hardly something to be proud of is it!

TacMedic1, you forgot to add that it'll be watched by the winners colleagues too. Who on earth would want to stand on the door next to the type of "professional" that wins this comp??!!!

Ok, so deep down in places we don't like to talk about at parties (where did I get that from?), a bit of the physical stuf does go on and can be a valuable ability when you'r back's against the wall; butthis is not what being a DS today is about. What muppet would enter this? And why would anyone remotely conected to the industry organise such an event??

Half the press would tear strips out of it for being violent and unprofessional and the other half would praise it for being glorified action packed heroism (those stupid red tops and lads mags!)

THE most dumb idea; IMHO dumber than the SIA..........

Stupid and irresponsible, but lets face it, there will be a following because-unfortunately there are a lot of brain dead Neanderthal types out there and yes....some of them work the doors.

One question!!
do we know whether this is backed/supported/promoted/sanctioned by the sia!

not being funny but i cant see from the original poster or from the replies above, anything that suggests that there is any SIA involvement.

I know we like to bash the SIA and they are due a bit of critique but........

Stupid idea, puts the job back to the 70's with dickie bow ties. Sounds like a mass ego outlet for sad stupid thick thugs. We all know these guys and have had to work with them, mainly bullies who have big muscles and no brains.

This event does nothing but promote a bad image of all doorstaff.

Congratulations and well done this will surely aid the correct representation sought by professional door supervisors.
