Have looked after many doors on my own my current jobs three and a half years, loyalist and republican paramilitaries can be pains in the ass fat drunks with a balaclava in their back pocket all cowards bit like bananas yellow and hang about in bunches, but somehow I manage to get away with it. Brought up in terrorist environment all my life so I'm probably more aware and security conscious than most, know how they operate, oh for a straight forward ordinary drunk... heaven !

Anyways what i wanted to say is (as you've guessed) don't work on the door on your own, not even for a one off. I'm new to this, got my badge on Thursday. Been working on a quiet bar since Friday and tonight (the quietest night of the week) i turn up to work, and find out I'm on my own tonight... I though nothing of it as it was a Sunday and only for a few hours.

No trouble all night, got everyone out except this one guy who refused to drink up so i gave him a couple more mins but then he had to go. He didn't like that i tell you (you more experienced guys probs know what i mean?) this guy, similar build to me bout 6ft 2" 100kgs but older (im only 19) tried to get me in a head lock, i got out of it and got him on the deck, semi restrained. But who was there to help? No one!! The bar staff certainly didn't help (but i wouldn't expect them too).

I eventually got him out, but to be honest looking back on it the biggest mistake was working alone. I feel i dealt with the situation as to the best of my abilities. Still feel shaken though. I think its mainly the things like 'im gonna kill you next week, just wait' etc he was saying outside and when he was on the floor that has stuck in my head the most . And after you've got non of your guys to talk to about it.

Luckily i only came out with this with a bit of a pulled neck which im going to know about in the morning...

Anyways hope no one does work on their own, i know i will never do it again. Cheers,

Jason.

I'll have to agree and disagree with you in certain points.

This is quite normal on DS.. working on your own. Nowadays, especially with this credit crunch going on, do not expect to much to be heard in certain aspects. Also, you are only 19... maybe your lack of experience in approaching someone has trigged all of it. The fact that you are posting a thread like this shows it, and said yourself that you are still "shaken by it".. Maybe you are not ready to take on doors yet, or you should work alongside someone else more experienced in a club/bar and observe and learn from that.

Advice: You'll be surprised to find out that even dealing with the most asshole's guys around or the wannabe's tough men on a very calm, pleasant and approachable manner, will be the same ones who'll end up shaking your hand in the end, it's called psychology.. it's called "managing" a situation.
