I cant help thinking that if it had been called something else then there wouldnt have been so many objections. And could have possibly made it into a charity event as well as.

Britains hardest doorman just makes people think of the typical stereotype doorman where as 'Security Industry Charity Boxing Night' sounds a little better. Money goes to a good cause and a prize fund as well. Promoters would have just had to take a smaller cut. So in hindsight never gonna happen!

I just don't see the need for it to have been in any way shape or form linked to our industry. So they were all doormen, fine, but if it was a boxing event then call it an amateur boxing event.....

I mean the football World Cup is full of guys who play football for a living, it's not called 'The Worlds really best and coolest football country cup'.

A charity contribution may have made a difference but even then it's still the name of the event which is going to promote the fact these guys think their hard. What pray tell me is 'Hard' about a boxing match? It is a professional sport, they don't go about bragging theyre the hardest, maybe they blow their own trumpet about being the 'BEST' but thats all.

And quite frankly considering the sia were made aware of this event months ago, and they were actually formed by the government to help promote a cleaner industry, a better thought of industry and bring some decency to an industry that has for too long been thought of badly, then why they didn't step in and deal with it beggars belief.

You cannot form an idea of a better industry, charge people to become part of that, and then stand by and watch it all thrown away by some stupid evening to discover who is allegedly 'Britains Hardest Doorman'

Utter shambles, and i add the SIA to the list of those who should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves in this matter

It does not really matter particularly who won the bout/fight. The facts, which have been already pointed out and highlighted are: - Why an earth did it go ahead in the first place, and why was it highlighted that sia badged door supervisors were taking part in the event.

There was never any need for the industry to be mentioned in the first place. There could have been a boxing match, and proceeds going to a charitable cause. Instead it has caused such an uproar, probably bringing more attention to it than a charity match would have, thus making a bigger lining of pockets for the organisers.

Great to see the way everyone on here reacting to the 'news'. Were we not already under constant assault from the media and the public this would still be bad press. Surely as a Door sup we are supposed to resolve conflict peacefully where possible? Okay so occasionally you have to get stuck in but to promote this image can only set the cause back five, ten years?

I think it may be a worthwhile acivity if a petition or letter of complaint was sent on behalf of our members on this matter to the sia, they are culpable of not acting on this issue; given their remit set out by the government, their knowledge of the event and the admission of licensed DS taking part (aren't all DS licensed now?!).

Although, who says the SIA wants to "really" clean up the industry? The govt want us to stop smoking and driving cars, but they are happy to cream our taxes on these!

I'd by more than happy to stick my name to such a petition.

My only shame is that I will never have one of the super-ace SIA licenses issued as a show of extra level of training and professionalism of those bouncers who made the grade!!.......because of course, the industry governing body endorsed the competition for its gladiatorial valour
I think they'll carry on quite nicely without you LOL

BTW governing body endorsement? not that we saw - check your facts before boring everyone.

The point is the public's perception however. and their perception will not be restraint as someone is knocking the living crap out of someone! lol
