Lozzy is on a distinguished road
Hi.
I am a 26 year old female, and I am investigating entering into the security world.
I have a few questions however, and I was hoping someone out there may be able to help me! (Please!)

Ultimately, my goal is to work in NYC as a CPO, however before I can do that, I have to save up money, and wait for my other half to finish a uni degree before we can start thinking about making the move.

So - my questions are:

Is it even advisable for a woman to enter into the CPO business? Would I be likely to get any work?

If I attended a CPO course, would I then have to attend a seperate course to be able to have a door supervisor sia license, or could I apply for this licence on the strength of having done the CP course? (In the event of being unable to find CPO work locally whilst I wait, I would like to be able to save up by doing DS work)

Anyone have any advice on where to find the best courses? there's so many out there, all claiming to be the best!! )

erm...I think that's it!
So if anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!!
Thanks very much!
Loren

Firstly, welcome to the site Lozzy.
You may not be aware of this, but to do DS work you will need your badge, so the answer to your question is get your DS done first.

Secondly, if you register with companies that are providing CP, then you will get DS work on the strength of having done the course.(CP, that is) Don't let that get you down. Ihave a CP badge and I'm doing Static work, so it works in your favour sometimes. Enjoy the site and happy hunting & stay safe.

Loren. Just a question are either you or your other half U.S citzens I ask this as if not just getting residence in NYC will be hard work never mind permission to work. Also as I have found the sia license will get you no where in the U.S as its not recognised you would be better seeing if you can gain U.S quals (try Asiss). The only other course is if you can get sent over by a U.K company with work there or be sponcered by a U.S company.
In U.K I have my C.P license and have found the only advantage is during the summer season. D.S can do up to and including residence security.
Good luck
ACP

If you wish to do any CP type work in the US you must be licensed in the state where you wish to work. Some have stricter requirements than others, such as PPS and guard training and certification. Others are not so strict on the PPS (Personal Protection Specialists) but you will need to work for an established company. Firearms again are licensed differently in each jusridiction. You may need a guard, firearms and private investigator license in some areas to carry concealed. Obviously, there is a lot of research needed. And it is correct that your CP/DS licenses have no bearing on your getting licensed in the US.

By the way, ASIS offers a certification, but it is a professional designation and not a license to work anywhere. Might get you hired though.

Jm. Asiss was a suggestion on where to get info and possible help with contacts through their U.S chapters. As you said though dependant on where you intend to settle may be very strict. Also I mentioned it as my atemps to contact U.S companies direct met with no responce and so did'nt want to waste the ladies time.
Cheers ACP
