im going to be getting a kit together for drug testing in pubs and nightclubs - im looking for it to be compact small enough to fit on the back of my belt but i dont know where to begin with the contents
so far i have thought of multiple sets of sterile gloves evidence bags i have been looking around for various testing wipes but one company had them selling a pack of 50 for around £100 - what do other people have? |

I'm not entirley sure but I know there is a company that sells urine testing strips , approx five or so strips on one block testing for a range of class a - c drugs. But I cant remember the name...try googling with keywords..we used to use them in the hospitals psychiatric wards testing the druggies on admission....to add , I'm not sure of the legalities...you should check that if you have not already..the only way I can see these kits working is if customers comply and offer consent...and if they dont..they dont come in....?

Not being funny but some nights its mad enough with refusels becuase they refuse being searched or whatever else. Drug testing potential customers is going take up more valuable time. Im sure you will agree some venues are stretched for staff as it is, with another performing drug tests on customers, leaves another vunerable point at the venue, or pay out for more staff (which is very unikely). Also I'm not sure, would there need to be two doorsupervisors carrying out the drug testing, as when searching, it is always done with two people - one as a witness, the other searching... just a thought

Could be a little out of date here, but the last time I looked into the drug search kits, each kit could only detect one particular type of drug. This meant having to do multiple tests on each person or a truly random search (guided by the local drug of choice). Worked out as too expensive in both money and man hours for us. Hard enough trying to convince the boss we need an extra bod I can imagine his answer if I asked for drug test kits.

If you are working at just one venue, a letter to your local Police licensing officer ( for him to attach this to the licensing agreement documentation)informing him of your decision to go down this route would be idea. Also double up on everthing staff, bagging, gloves, sharpes boxes, evidential paper logs and signs across the venue to inform the customers what to expect (I think this comes under P.U.W.E.R. regs). After all the last thing you would want is to be in the middle of a drugs test/ seizure when it all goes PETE TONG and worse case scenario the door staff wind up being arrested or searched by the local constabulary in possession of a batch of modern chemistry that was not thiers in the first place. Obviously this is an ideal world scenario but I think you get the idea.

its not for the front door with searches as the place im working at is a public place where parents are bringing their kids - on saturday just gone i started at 7pm done a toilet check at the start of the evening and found white powder residure on one of the roll holders, we conducted random checks through the night and found shortened straws, a small resealable bag and residue every time we were in there - we had a couple of guys we suspected - searched one didnt find any packets etc but found white residue on the back of the phone and on his cards 20 minutes later went back and done another check, loads of white residue and only one person had been in there after we had check the surfaces - he admitted having weed on him and that was all that had been found - obviously had finished the last of it

That only changes things slightly, more in your favour I would imagine.Whoever owns or manages your place of work needs to be made aware of this, as the duty of care will eventually fall on their toes if a child comes into contact with any noxious substance whilst on the premises. It should then form part of the workplace risk assessment as the owners have an absolute duty of care especially where children are involved and this should always be based on what is foreseeable, you have now evidenced that.(check out the childrens act - Police National Legal Database on the net). If you have reasonable suspicion to believe that the individual you stopped has been taking illicit substance on your premises I can see no reson why you should not lawfully eject them. Best practice would also try and get footage of them for future reference, and / or involve the police.Hope this does not sound like a lesson in sucking eggs. Best of luck

Probably not the best solution for your place of work, but a trained Dog can work wonders, it's a fantastic deterrent as well.
