Dand I agree with you there are some good females and some good guys and like you I have worked with both and some can be awful. I do think the military guys who are not as used to working with a lot of females as say the Police give girlies a harder time. Thats certainly been my experience.

I dont think females get a rough ride. If you are capable of doing a job and you are the best person for that job then it shouldn't matter what gender you are.
Sometimes being female can be an advantage. Sometimes there are comments made by members of the public when I am working (retail job) - like im an alien or something, usually the gobby male chavs that I arrest for shoplifting - lol |

As they say " If it doesn't kill you.. it will only make you stronger". Wouldn't say that I have had a "tought ride", but I have encountered resistance from guy who perhaps feel threatened when something that used to be a "male domain" suddenly has opened up to the benefit of highly skilled and motivated ladies.
Personally I prefer working on mixed teams. A female can do the job just as good as any man. From what I have seen recently, a increasing group of clients actually requests female CPO's as they in general possess excellent presentation skills, and don't generate unwanted attention in high profile events. Even for an untrained eye, it is not hard to spot a male cpo or Surveillance officer in for example, a fine dining environment... The general perception seems to be that females can not cope with the physical side of the job.. I have worked with many females and never had a problem. In fact, most female CPOs are aware of the fact that they are a minority and therefore try very hard to be on top of the game at all times. |

With regards to female Surveillance ops, the more experienced generally get alot of respect and they should too as they can always get away with that little bit more when on the follow especially on foot, I have worked with some really great female officers, but then some really lazy ones too but I suppose the same can be said for some male op's aswell. The surveillance industry (& maybe some of the other trades here) is mostly made up of guys so more female op's is a good thing but it takes a unique type of female to do what we do so once you find the ones that work well with you it pays to keep hold of them because they are like gold dust.

I've never had a problem with any blokes I've worked with. I think the fact that I'm not politically correct helps and a warped sense of humour, I'm also a bit of tomboy. I work hard to gain their respect but it has to work both ways

Barbaraanne, I would totally agree respect, it goes a long way. It takes along time to gain it, but once you have it you keep hold of it.
I do not have a problem working with male or female. I work with mostly men though. Last edited by 80085; 29-03-2008 at 03:46 PM. |

Hi guys and girls,
Ithink the last post touches on it better than most. There is sometimes a tendency for a female to feel the need to try to provoke a comment as to her ability. Personally i feel that if an operator.... be they male or female, can crack it and has a sense of humour without a shoulder chip, no problem. Of course there are men who have an attitude towards women doing a 'mans' role. They are deplorable idiots who probably bear some kind of inferiority complex. Having said that, there are some women who try to challenge the men, i don't mean physically. In those situations most men i think ( myself included ) would react to that as they would react to a man who is pushing himself forward over someone else. This industry in particular is not forgiving of anyone who shoots off at the mouth, but cant come up with the goods. We rely on each other far too much to put up with anything that upsets the equilibrium of a positive and professional environment.

The only time I've had a problem is one guy I work with now, sometimes he forgets that we're there for the protection of the people and property on site and focuses on protecting me. It's fine to watch each other's backs, that's why you work in a team but he has to forget that I'm a woman and focus on the job in hand. Having said that he's relatively new to the job and learning all the time

I think thats why is is a good idea never to work with your partner/husband, especially in this field of work. Any other opinions on this?
