MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee Army reservist's military identification earned him some street cred Tuesday, when he says four men who mugged him at gunpoint returned his belongings and thanked him for his service after finding the ID.

The 21-year-old University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student said he was walking home from work about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday when he was pulled into an alley and told to lay face down and with a gun to his neck. Four men took his wallet, $16, keys, his cell phone and even a PowerBar wrapper from his pants pockets, he said.

But the hostile tone quickly changed when one of the robbers, whom the reservist presumed was the leader, saw an Army ID in the wallet. The robber told the others to return the items and they put most of his belongings on the ground next to him, including the wrapper, the reservist said.

"The guy continued to say throughout the situation that he respects what I do and at one point he actually thanked me and he actually apologized," said the reservist, who asked not to be identified Tuesday because the robbers still had his keys.

The reservist said he asked the men, who all had hoods or hats covering their faces, if he could get up and they said he could before starting to walk away.

ZERO mate, there is not as much respect for the armed forces as in US, Canada where else would ppl stand and applaud at theme parks and cinema for their force., UK, certainly not here mate!

when i was in Florida last year we went to most of the theme parks and all of them had banners somewhere thanking their troops for their service. Went to see the Shamu the killer whale thing and they got all US and UK military personnel to stand up and they got a round of applause. I know it sounds corny but at least they give a shit about their military over there. Just the fact that most houses have a US flag flying outside is pretty cool

I'll second that, as we seen this at the theme parks and especially when we went to see Shamu also last year around Jun/Jul time.

I can't believe the lack of support from our Government its a disgrace, its coming across as if they don't give a damn whats going on outhere and the lack of equipment that our troops are not receiving, it makes me cringe!

The US know how to respect our troops so why can't the UK and the rest of NATO follow suit..what are they afraid of!

"Lets all stand strong together and show our respect for our troops and put our banners and union flags out with pride", I know some people would disagree depending were you are from and what religion you are, but hey what do u think..lets have a vote on the forum..

Bugger all, they would pobably blame him for petrol prices or some equally narrow minded idea. Let our off duty Soldiers and Police carry a loaded pistol like we did in NI and watch how the mugging/roobery stats go down as they will never be sure who they are robbing. (lease don't turn that comment into an anti-firearm thread)
