Ok

I would like feedback from members regarding which radio you prefer to use when working the European cp/surveillance circuit.

And can anyone explain to me the pros and cons of Kenwood/Motorola?

Many thanks

A very good radio to use it the Motorola MTH800 but very expensive and hard to get hold of them eBay users sell them from time to time. You need a licence to use them in the UK. Kenwood I’ve only ever used Protalk series.

andy13978 will become famous soon enough
I Have used Motorola GP344 and they are a great small radio, but depending on situation and budget could determine what radios you go for.

I also agree the MTH800 are great, they are a tetra radio used by the Police etc and second hand units have gone on ebay for around £600 plus.

Moto radios are a great choice because there are so many accessories available for them, from loads of outlets so if you need to replace anything you can do it without impacting the job too much - I've got a couple of Entel HX402S', one of the best for performance, decent features, waterproof etc but not a lot of extras available, I could only find one maker doing a 3 wire earpiece for example.

Proper radio requires a licence to operate but it does give you your own frequency so unlike the cheap PMR sets, you aren't vying for space with everyone else and it's much harder for someone to 'snoop' as they need proper gear.
As far as I'm aware, there is no reciprocal agreement between the UK and other countries, so you can't use your UK radio on a foreign job, you'll need to hire a local one on one of their bands, if you operate overseas a lot, don't buy anything you'll be wasting your money.

Don't bother with the MTH800 either - you'll pay a lot because of all the Tetra features, non of which you'll be able to use anyway, you'll just have it programmed onto a normal licenced frequency and you'll probably get laughed at for trying to look like the police
